No one's rowing in dangerous little boats from Florida to get into Cuba.
You sound like you should be old enough to know how and when this started....you really think Cuba and Castro wanted to be cut off from anything surrounding them because they wanted their own land and destiny and not just be cheap labor while American owners cashed in?

No, Florida is forcing its teachers and students to put themselves in an impossible position....no problem at all...its a great idea to stuff 40 kids and a teacher into a room half a day during a pandemic.....
I have kids, it has been extremely challenging for all of us....but the governor forcing people back to school into an unsafe environment is madness....
Talk about dictatorship and no regard for life....

They also took over police headquarters someplace, driving the police out like ISIS did to the Iraqi army.  How embarrassing.

No they didn’t. The cops voluntarily vacated the building, and the protesters subsequently moved in. It was in Seattle.

Quote
Then some cops got on their knees to beg forgiveness from the demonstrators.  Yikes.  I'm sure the citizens, black and white, felt a lot more protected in case they ever needed the police at home.

Didn’t happen. Police kneeled in solidarity with the protesters in Portland.

Honestly, do you watch the news on TV with the sound off, and just make up the narrative of what’s happening as you go along? It is the only thing I can think of to explain it. Except maybe that is how Fox News reported it.

That sounds very implausible. Or that police regiment was very dubious.

Actually I think they overran a police station in Minneapolis and burnt it.

Do you even know what a stupid racist comment that is?
You really need to advance your English and reading skills.  I was using irony to point out the fact that because blacks are making millions and have a majority employment in the NBA over whites, there is not structural racism.  If you want to see that kind of racism, look back to major league baseball before black baseball player Jackie Robinson when there were only white baseball players.  It shows just how much society has changed.  You don't know what you're talking about. Liberals have knee-jerk reactions to calling anyone a racist when they point out facts showing racism has diminished or is gone. Non-racists like me are tired of people like you pulling the race card when you are shown your own racist tendencies.

Like I said, just like ISIS who moved in and without a shot being fired, the Iraqi army dropped their guns and ran away like scared children.  Then ISIS took over killing people and civil society became uncivil.

Look what's happening now. Killings in NYC are up 60% this year.  They've already had as many as in all of 2019.  Similar in other cities.  Lawlessness has taken hold because of liberal Democrat action.  Or should I say lack of action.  They're letting the loonies run the place. The inmates have taken over.  There's no respect for the police.  They're afraid to act and be sent to jail like the criminals they try to arrest.  The dangerous people see the vacuum in enforcement and are taking advantage of it.

Two Teenagers Are Among 8 Killed on Deadly Day in New York City
The spate of shootings on Sunday came as the city wrestles with a spike unlike anything it has seen in decades.

We are drifting off topic again, chaps. If you want to bicker pointlessly about BLM, do it elsewhere.

Jeremy

We have now had several pages of drivel without mention of Covid-19 (in contrast to the pages of drivel which had preceded them). As that makes it clear, were clarification necessary, that nobody here has anything relevant or useful to say on the topic, this thread is closed. I might re-open it in a week or so; it will not be replaced in the interim.

Although this is my thread, I'll let someone else restart the drivel.

Since we've been noting milestones in this thread, I'll point out that Worldometer reports over 180,000 Covid deaths in the US. They also show a continuing and persistent 1000+ deaths per day. Brazil and India seem to coming up fast in the rankings, and the daily deaths in those three countries seem to be an order of magnitude higher than in the rest.

180,000 is 3 times the 60,000 death level at which Slobodan wanted to be woken up. As I recall, he reported still resting comfortably at the 120,000 level. :)

Experts change their minds again.  This time about testing. So who should we believe?

The experts, of course. These policies change with time, have changed several times since February. They are not set in stone, and keep being adjusted as the situation and knowledge develops. What the CDC reccommends has been implemented already in Portugal a few weeks back, following similar guidelines form their European counterpart.

Quoting from your link: "If you have been in close contact (within 6 feet) of a person with a COVID-19 infection for at least 15 minutes but do not have symptoms, you do not necessarily need a test unless you are a vulnerable individual or your health care provider or State or local public health officials recommend you take one."

You have asked this question repeatedly and have received both short and long form answers. It's not clear why you keep asking it, no one here will have anything new to say at this point, I suspect.

I'm reminding everyone that using your own judgment is just as credible as following experts who keep changing their minds.

Experts in all scientific areas change their minds for several reasons: new data, adjusting to developing situations and conditions, etc. In this particular case, mine, yours, or anybody else's judgement, is irrelevant, unless they are scientific experts in this matter.

Things change quickly, especially in pandemic situations. I would rather trust the judgement of respectable and reputable scientists, than "you know who".
