If you are a small business owner, you do not get unemployment benefits (UB). If you are an individual contractor, you do not get UB. if you are part-time worker, you do not get UB. Gig economy is much larger than it appears.

This isn't just about food and going hungry. Careers, and consequently, lives will be ruined forever. Millions who lost their jobs in the 2008 recession NEVER recovered, never found another similar job, or any job. Once you are six months out of job, you are considered a long-term unemployed, which nobody wants to hire. You stop looking for job, and then you drop out of unemployment statistics too.  Housing market in Chicago NEVER recovered either. I sold my home at a 15% loss nine years after the 2008 crisis.

Slobo, have you read anything about the benefits people are getting in Canada? Small business, self employed...even retirees. Don't know what it's like in the States, but Canada is taking pretty good care of its people.

As far as jobs go, yeh some will lose their job...just to get another. I've lost a job when the company I worked for went bankrupt...got another. Life's like that...no gurarantees.

I personally don't give a flying f*ck what other countries are doing. But setting aside my personal views, if that would be so, than why are all international institutions and institutes saying this is going to be a recession worse than the Great Depression in the '30s? IMF, United Nations, World Bank, The Economist, etc.

There is this gleeful view that some, e.g., Canadians. are presenting that their mighty government is going to take care of everything... postpone your rent, mortgage, pay for this pay for that... Where do you thing that money comes from? Grows on trees? Reduced economic activity means less goods produced, and less taxes for the government. The gap will be filled with printed money.Too much money chasing too few goods, isn't that a classical definition of inflation?

When the history of the 21st century is written, the global lockdown will be seen as the most idiotic collective measure the mankind has ever undertaken.

I think the one thing Trump supporters on this forum have a really hard time understanding is that not all of us who dislike Trump (okay, Trump haters) are participating in the march toward the great socialist future. I've mentioned several times I had no great problem with conservative presidents. If you've got an intelligent, well-meaning guy in the presidency, and he screws up a few times, well, he's human. The problem with Trump is that he's nuts. As in mentally unbalanced. He refers to Scarborough as "Cold-Case Joe" and wants an investigation into Scarborough's participation in a "murder" of a woman who worked in his office. A thoroughly reputable medical examiner ruled that the evidence showed that the woman who died had a heart condition that caused her to faint and hit her head, and that she passed away from that impact. He ruled that she'd not been hit by any other human being. ***AND***  Scarborough was in Washington DC at the time of her death in Florida.

Yet, the president wants him investigated for murder. Scarborough replied by pleading with Trump not to watch MSNBC any more, because it was bad for him. Asked him to go to work, instead of watching television and getting all upset.

I don't believe that this is the kind of person you can have in the presidency. I'm really worried that if he loses the election, he'll start a war out of spite. Because he's nuts.
