There are lots of rebels that Americans don't like though, aren't there? It's tough to choose sometimes.

But Musk is the kind people like.  I mean, who would send up a satellite in their own missile that's one of their Tesla electric cars with a dummy sitting in the driver's seat to float around the earth?  A guy who took on the America and world automobile industry as well as the rocket companies?  I don't know what rebels you're talking about.  But Musk is what Americans are about, the really good stuff that attracts people to our shores.  People who see themselves rising from nothingness to something.  Let's face it.  They go to Canada for quiet and to America for adventure. ;)

No idea WTF you mean about the "Well, maybe someday" excuse.

Or someone who screwed the pooch on this pandemic and now people are dying at 2,000 / day and the economy is sinking deeper every day.
Trump didn't start the pandemic.  But I agree the economy is in trouble.  It was in trouble before but Trump was nursing it along with Fed money.  Still is to even a greater degree.  Of course, the whole government is doing it, Democrats and Republicans.  The debt king never saw a debt that he didn't like.   That's true.  But the bubble was going to pop and the virus did it.  The damage is just getting started. I wonder about me and my wife's SS and pensions.  It ain't going to be worth crap when everything doubles in price due to all the printing.  Young people including my daughter are going to be in for years of trouble unfortunately.  What a disaster. Save your wallpaper.  It will be worth more than your greenbacks.  Other countries are not going to escape. They've been printing too.  The middle class is going to pay for all this big time with loss of whatever wealth they have and depreciation of the value of their salaries, pensions and investments. We're up to 30 million unemployed.  How's you country doing?

Your social security is inflation protected. Just another way our generation has always taken care of itself to the detriment of younger people -- only the younger people are now getting old and things are looking pretty bad for them. Not so bad for us, though. I think the economy will hold on long enough to see most boomers into their graves, so we won't have to worry about that.

Yup, If I was a politician I'd be quaking in my boots ...

What a bunch of fools, playing Army games. I'd like to see any one of the idiots take on a single day of Marine Corps training. Unfortunately, it's these people who, when they crack, go down and kill the local elementary school or church. If I were king of the US, I'd decree that the "well-regulated militia" carry bolt-action .22-shorts and nothing else, and I'd ban all automatic and semi-automatic weapons. Then, when the gun freaks went down to kill the local elementary school, the kids would have a chance to scatter.

Social Security uses items in the inflation basket to calculate SS increases that don't apply to retired people for many of them.  So increases due to inflation don't really keep up with the real devaluation of currency.  But pensions and savings are not inflation protected at all.  Especially today with 0% interest rates.  It's a joke.  In the old days, my parents at least got a toaster when they opened a savings account plus 3% interest.  3%! Now you get squat. I'd settle for the toaster.  :)

I agree with boomers paying themselves.  That's  why states are broke.  This is the democracy that the founders feared.  96-0 in the senate voted for $6 trillion in printing.  Then another one and another one to follow.  If the senators were elected by state legislatures as originally written in the constitution, rather than by the popular vote as it was change to a hundred years ago, the vote could have been different, more fiscally responsible.  The people, us, will break the bank and the back of our system.  It's the very thing the founders feared.

Why not?  Not everyone who "cracks" shoots people up.  Who gets to decide who can have their constitutional rights or not?

Lots unemployed, but mostly the low wagers which are getting a check from the government weekly...so I think they are doing fine. Most white collar jobs are still there, but many are working from home. My 3 kids and their significant others are working.

Canada's PM just outlawed "military style assault guns".  The key word is "style" because these guns are not automatic machine guns and would't be used by any country's  military.    The King of Canada has spoken, just what the American constitution protects against in the US. What is the legal basis of his edict?  Off with their heads.

A better question is what is the purpose of owning a gun that was developed to kill people? I'm glad your constitution protects you and you can carry around assault guns to your local Walmart...but I feel very safe living in a country who's rights do not dictate owning and carrying around guns whose sole purpose is to kill people.

I have enough friends in the states that carry guns either on themselves or at the very least within their vehicles and homes for safety. Yet I've lived without a gun, many of those years in Vancouver, and never once felt unsafe. So go figure...everyone carrying guns just to feel safe...what's wrong with this picture?

Alan, try to stick to your area of expertise, whatever that may be. Most US military rifles didn't have full auto, though that may be changing. They had a selector switch which the operator could move between single-shot and burst mode, with burst mode firing three rounds. Full auto, which was give to certain elite units, would allow you to dump an entire magazine. For soldiers with less training (and most have less training than the elites) full-auto would allow a panicked reaction that would leave the soldier with an empty magazine just when he needed it most. Most soldiers were told to keep the weapon on single-shot, which is essentially what a semi-auto does, EXCEPT that work-arounds were provided by certain American companies (called bump stocks.) Bump stocks essentially allowed semi-autos to be fired in bursts, and that made them into something close to military assault rifles, although bump stocks are inherently inaccurate and are useful only for shooting into unarmed crowds, as happened in Las Vegas.

These rifles basically have one function: to kill people. In many states, until recently, these .223 rifles were not allowed for hunting because they weren't deadly enough. The .223s are actually considerably less powerful than common bolt action hunting rifles, and weren't allowed because there was evidence that they created more wounded animals, which would get away and then die a slow death, than more powerful rifles. Further, these rifles are generally less accurate, and even when well-tuned, can't compete with a well-tuned bolt-action. If you want to punch paper and test your accuracy skill, you'd be better off with a bolt-action. If you want to hunt, you'd be better off with either a more powerful rifle (for big game) or a less powerful one (a .22) for small game. I've given up hunting, though I still have a hunting cabin in Wisconsin, and when you'd be out during deer season, and you'd hear a bap-bap-bap-bap-bap from a .223 or an AK, you'd think, "Oh, shit, some clueless asshole is out here in the woods with me."

The idea that these rifles could be used to fight off a tyranny in the US is a fantasy indulged by people who like to intimidate others with their weapons. If there is ever a real tyranny in the US, it will be supported by the military, who would eat these wanna-be patriots for lunch.

The constitution does not allow American citizens to hunt.  That isn't protected.  Those are privileges that are granted and may be removed according to each state's laws as are their hunting rules.

The Constitution of the United States grants in the second amendment the right to bear a weapon to defend oneself and home and kill people including politicians in particular who try to take way your liberties.  It's the last protection against illegal power of government and dictators should the constitutional  protections be breached.  There would be no point having a weapon that doesn't kill people.  How would you shoot the dictator?

"Open carry" in public, concealed weapons, and the right to walk around with a loaded gun is not protected in the constitution.  Those are regulated differently according to each state's and locality's laws.

This is the type of condescending liberal, elitist crap that deserves a FU from "the low-wagers." If you ever lived off unemployment benefits, you'd know that is hardly enough to pay half the bills. There are 30 million unemployed due to the liberals/democrats/progressives or whatever else crap.
