I have, at this time, gotten tired of confidential sources.  If it was once and while, I would be more likely to take it seriously.  However, with the drastic rise of un-named sources without any evidence, I have to pass on taking it seriously.

Dont forget, it came out in 2016 that a few different very prominent reporters wrote positive stories for HRC at her behest and included specific text requested by her campaign.  When this evidence came out of colluding with a politician, no one recieved any kind of punishment, even at the NYTs.  So I do not put it past the papers anymore to make stuff up.

Just look at the last Cavanaugh story in the Times.  They purposely left out the fact that the woman in question had no memory of the incident and did not think it actually happened.

Man, the speed at which you are voluntarily readying yourself for a totalitarian state is just scary.

Confidentiality of sources is a core aspect of the free press.

Especially when the leader is well known not to be able to accept any form of criticism.

It is totally obvious that many important contributors to the health of americans may both be critical of the administration and be willing to continue to help in their current function. The only way to do both is to speak anonymously. If you speak out you get fired.

Cheers,
Bernard

I'm talking about people who have jobs/careers that Trump has power over, but I think you know that.

Because it's totally reasonable to assume that reporters like Maggie Haberman, Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein, Shep Smith, and John Karl fabricate wholesale fiction and make up sources.

(It's not.)

And I’m talking about them too.  If you think it’s bad enough that you need to become a leaker, then own the hell up to it.

Given the state of the press in the US at this point in time, I don’t trust s single dang one of them regardless of who the write or report for.  And I’m not alone.  The public has little trust left for them as well.  The company listed included.

Go on record.

That's just irrational.

(Edit: Assuming we're talking about professional, career journalists, not Internet muckrakers)

It not irrational James.  We have so called journalists advocating throwing away their all semblance of objectivity to do what ever to make Trump gone.

In the New York Times, to boot.

Yeh can't trust the press, nor the lying president, nor the experts in their fields. Let's go buy more guns...that'll solve all.

We agree.  But y'all don't believe those people either. Everyone that leaves at talks about what a horror show Trump is are simply pilloried by the Trumpy press and his enablers.

Believing or not is not the point.  The point being  we can see who actually made the claim before deciding what to believe.

Or are you just willing to assume all these journalists are just always honest in their reporting and are never biased or willing to stretch the truth to make a point?

Or in chez world, just believe it all,...

With all due respect, you are the one believing it all. Believing that everything that's not aligned with your Trump centric views must necessarily be biased.

Go back and read the literature of the pre-dicatorship Russia. They were many people like you. Believing that the enemies of the revolution had to be shut up. That those not aligned with the great views of the leader were enemies of the state. Including the press. Including those that tipped the press and wanted to stay alive.

We know where it has taken them.

Guess what, they were 100% to be right. Beyond any possible doubt.

Cheers,
Bernard

LOL, you must be sleeping under a rock.

This is the perfect time for someone predisposed to dictatorship to take those powers, but Trump has not even flirted with it.  As a matter of fact, it is the Dems who want the government to do so.  Trump is refusing all temptations.

This is not like Deep Throat that brought us the Pentagon Papers.  Show me actual evidence that can be corroborated, and I'll start taking them seriously.

Until then, yawn.

PS, the idea that journalist are not biased is just as ridiculous as saying lawyers are not either.  I have very little faith in a news source that is biased one way from the bottom up.  If a paper is biased liberal amongst its journalists, then the editors need to be biased conservative to balance out (and vis versa).  Otherwise you just get the epic fall from grace we have seen at the NYTs.

I am talking about you Joe.

About how you receive information, about how you support whatever reason to protect you from the views not aligned with your beliefs. Even if this means promoting the termination of the core mechanisms that ensure that people can talk to the press. i.e. anonymousity.

If people want to talk to the press fine, but dont expect me to take as seriously a no-name source without evidence then someone who has the balls to actually come forward and put it all on the line.

Snowden was courageous.  These other no-namers, I have more important things to worry about.

Like I said, if it was just one or two, maybe I would listen.  But it seems every week some new "source" who the reporters cant name, give me a break.

Scouting mostly of other projects.

Most of the construction just stopped, so the sites are in too much of a disarray to shoot.  Plus, the leaves are still not out yet.

My wife did a product shoot this week as well in our home studio.

None of these so called sources ever come with evidence.

This is not like Deep Throat that brought us the Pentagon Papers.  Show me actual evidence that can be corroborated, and I'll start taking them seriously.

Until then, yawn.

Lets examine the "sources"of the story that started this the no one besides me has actually read.  I'll be happy to stand corrected if someone else has read the piece.

Here is the quote from the story about the sources.

This portrait of the White House three months into the coronavirus crisis is the result of interviews with 22 senior administration officials, lawmakers, public health officials and other Republicans in frequent touch with the White House, many of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity to be candid.

So what is a senoir adminsitration official?  How many of these have actually first hand knowlege?  Of these 22 how many actually went on the record?  How many were anonyous?  And more important, were those who wer actually quoted by name actually asked to confirmor deny the claims made in the story?

Theses are pretty basic questions one needs to ask to see if a claim or an entire story might or might not be accurate.  I read a small mountain of press stories every day, even more in this time.  I read from all manner of sources and in doing so it allows me to some degree to find the wheat from the chaff.  One thing has become abundantly clear to me over the years of reading news, you never trust a single source or point of news.  Our press is pretty much reviled by Americans.  Th last poll I looked at showed overall the positive view of the media was only 20%.  When it comes to the handling of the virus only 40%.  In a word, they suck.
