People here asked me a couple of weeks ago when I thought things would start opening up.  I said May 5th.  I'm sticking to that.
What do you mean by "start opening up"?

The election is really Trump's to win or lose. If he simply shut up, I think he'd probably win. But he keeps stepping on his own dick. Those people who find little problems with Biden's demeanor are fooling themselves. Biden's demeanor and health won't be issues, because everything is going to be strained through large and powerful advertising and image-making industries. And Trump has provided the Democrats with endless ammunition.

Keep on dreaming John.  Biden does not stand a chance.

All that marketing is going to make him seem fake, just like with HRC.  Just look at his new podcast, a highly edit program removing all of the pauses and redundant words, you cant even make out when he is breathing because it is so edited.  He is going to become super protected and will look just as fake as Hillary did when she did the same thing.

Not to mention Biden has a long long career to tap into, much of which he is trying to abandon but cant.

Speaking of which, CDC considers relaxing coronavirus guidelines, letting some Americans return to work.

Looking like Trump must be reading your posts.  His administration is planning a controlled release.

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is considering relaxing coronavirus guidelines as early as Wednesday, allowing Americans who have been exposed to COVID-19 but are asymptomatic to return to work."

Heres what some of the "progs" are demanding of Biden, He goes this route and he loses the middle, frogets them and loses the far left.  Splits the deal and both have votes who say i don't think so. :

Progressive youth groups issue a list of demands for Joe Biden
The letter from seven groups, which comes hours after Bernie Sanders ended his campaign, calls on Biden to endorse policies like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal framework.

The organizations, some of which endorsed Sanders in the primary, said they would spend more than $100 million mobilizing millennial and Gen Z Americans this cycle and asked Biden's campaign to ensure their efforts are "backed-up by a campaign that speaks to our generation."

The groups call on Biden to endorse policy initiatives like Medicare for All, canceling all student debt, taxing wealth, and the Green New Deal framework of a fully clean energy economy by 2030. They make process demands like eliminating the legislative filibuster and adding seats to the Supreme Court. And they include personnel wishes like rejecting Wall Street or other corporate executives for important roles and to pick a Homeland Security chief committed to "dismantling ICE and CBP as we know them."

Biden is leading Trump in the latest Florida poll by six points. In FLORIDA.

And yet Trump has 40+ point lead in enthusiasm.

People do not go out to vote against someone, they go out to vote for some one, and no body is excited to vote for Joe Biden.  Primary numbers for Dems were far down compared to Obama and way up for Trump.  Not to mention only now will the general election voters start pay attention.

Biden has gone too far left, and that is going to be advertised non-stop.  In PA do you think that fact that he wants to ban fracking will go over well?  It wont.  Same thing in Michigan.  Wisconsin has moved further to the right on its own BTW.

Biden likes to claim he is a better person, but will not recognized that child Hunter had with the stripper as his grandchild.  During the first debate, Trump will have her and that child as a guest and hammer away at that.  Not to mention he cant remember all of them anyway; he keeps on saying he has 5.  Joe has 7 actually.

Not to mention the Hunter Biden investigation is going to resume in Senate.

Biden has a lot of issues.

If Trump does well on reopening this economy, he will get praised and the election will be a referendum on Biden, period.  Not to mention, as I said before, Trump has universally changed the country's mind on a lot of issues.  Biden's insistence that China is our friend will kill him; he has been on tape several times in the last year saying just that.  After this, that will destroy Sleepy Joe.

In all fairness Allen, he was responding to me where I said that this is what I feel most Dems look like.

I just never thought Armand too would agree with me.  I mean that is the only way to take his response.  He did not say this is what he thinks Trump looks like, only this is what I had in mind about who you are talking about, the Dems.

The Dems apparrently look just like Trump but with a bit of added Communist dictator.  Sounds about right to me.
Well, we shouldn't make these comparisons on either side. It's just bad form.

I agree and did not think of it like that.  I was more or less making the reference because that is the face of a man who knew it was over.  The Democrats have to, at some level, know Joe does not have it.

Not a single Democratic operative ever said anyone on stage could bet Trump during the debates, including Biden.  They will change their tune now, publicly, but I feel like we will hear a lot of "we all knew he was a bad candidate," just like after Hillary lost.

Hillary did win the popular vote, and by quite a bit. And only a few thousand votes spread across three states kept her from winning the electoral vote.
Hillary's problem was that the Democrats nominated her because somehow they felt it was her turn, and that she was better than Bernie, which she probably was. But she was unlikeable, arrogant, too far left, provably corrupt and a woman, when not all states are ready to elect a woman.

Look, here's what we're going to get. Imagine Trump in a really unflattering photograph looking quite a lot like Porky Pig. We start the commercial showing body bags being hauled out of hospitals (I've seen this shot on cable news already), then a number comes up --80,000 dead -- or whatever, then video of Trump saying, It'll be gone in fifteen days, or it'll be zero, or any of a number of other things he said, and then freeze frame on the Porky Pig shot. Or this: The Navy Captain walks down the gangway while hundreds of sailors are shouting "Captain Crozier, Captain Crozier" then Trump said, "He was really bad..." Freeze on the Porky Pig image. Or a shot of Cuomo saying, "We've got a war on our hands" then the Porky Pig shot: "I"m number 1 on Facebook."

There are dozens of possibilities, all with real gut-wrenching emotion tied to them. You think a shot of poor old Sleepy Joe standing in front of a bookcase is going to drive voting? I think you're the one who's dreaming, Joe. The good thing about it, of course, is that we'll find out.

Biden won't be bad -- he'll essentially be a placeholder for the 2024 election. He won't get much accomplished, but I think people are ready for a rest. For those people who think some Sanders backers may either sit on their hands, or vote for Trump, I think this may happen in some cases, since both men appeal to the same essentially populist impulse. A lot of conservatives don't understand that populists are quite tolerant of socialist economics, but are not tolerant of liberal social/cultural philosophy.

Most people think in terms of liberal vs. conservative, but that's never been the situation in the western nations, including the entire western hemisphere. We're actually divided on a four-way scale: liberals, conservatives, populists and libertarians. In the US, libertarians haven't been an effective force since the Civil War. Their numbers are small, and they tend mostly toward the Republican Party when it comes to actual voting. Of the other three, electoral politics have been dominated by liberals and conservatives, and the populists would swing back and forth between the two parties, depending on what the current dominant issues were. In general, liberals tend to be both liberal on social and economic issues -- that is, they tend to be very permissive on most social issues (abortion, gay rights, women' rights, death penalty, legalization of drugs, national medical insurance, civil rights, the exception being gun rights) and quite supportive of large government and high taxes. Conservatives are generally very restrictive on those social issues (again, the exception is guns) and, of course, are for smaller government, private property rights and lower taxes. Populists tend to side with conservatives on social issues like abortion, gay rights, death penalty, drugs) but with liberals on the economic issues -- medical insurance being the major one, but they also tend to like loose money, restrictions on corporations, taxation of the rich, and so on. They switch back and forth depending on what issues are on the foreground, which is why they voted for both Obama and Trump.

I think Trump is on his way to losing the election, with choices he is making now -- he'll try to re-open the economy in a foolish way, that is, simply throw it open. If it were done in a more nuanced way, I think he'd be more successful. I think what will happen (I may be repeating myself here) is that sometime in early May, with the rate of infection declining along with the death rate, he'll pretty much demand that everything be reopened. That will happen, and another surge of the virus will take place, and build sharply through the autumn, as more and more people have to be quarantined again, and deaths start to rise again. And he'll be toast.

If Trump puts the virus to bed and pulls us through economically so markets and employment are back up (edit=improving), he'll win re-election.  No one's going to think Biden could have done a better job.  I expect Trump to give away the farm health insurance wise and keep the unemployment checks coming to keep the economy afloat through the election.  Then the sh!t will hit the fan and the economy will take a dump next year bringing the rest of the world down with us.

Would you like to hear my negative prediction? :)

That will work to keep some people home, but what about getting people out to vote for Biden.

You're making the same mistake the Dems made in 2016, people do not enthused to vote against someone.  Biden has nothing exciting going for him.

What do you mean by "start opening up"?
Getting back to work and getting the economy moving again.

In this report https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/08/pence-fauci-reopen-country-plan-coronavirus-175792, there is only a mention of the WH releasing a framework in the coming days, not actually starting the rollout of asymptomatic workers. Fauci himself did not give a date about that but did say it will still be a while.

Infection may be topping out in places hardest hit, but that doesn't mean it won't continue to get worse elsewhere, no evidence of that. Seems like the opposite to me, I'm not seeing a big change in slope in any of the Worldometer curves.

Besides, do we know for sure that people who have gotten over it are not contagious? It would be reasonable, that's what happens in other infections, but has it been shown? Italy and Spain are showing major changes in their curves and they're only talking about easing in several weeks' time.

He already said he was picking a woman.  If he picks a man now, he'll lose the gender vote. Maybe he'll select Mrs. Fauci.
