He actually said "Just because it was Castro, doesn't  make it a bad thing". Hitler did take Germany out of it's depression and Mussolini did make the trains run on time.
I believe Castro even petted a  dog once.

What amazing logic here.

Castro taught them to read then didn't let them read the books they wanted to read.  Burned them in fact.  Literate, uneducated people without freedom.  What good is literacy if you remain uneducated?  But the anti-Trump leftist press won't call Bernie on his comments.  After all, it's the same rationale they use to to justify Castro's dictatorship of Cuba.

If the candidates dont eviscerate Bernie in the next debate over this, then I have lost all hope and respect for the Democratic party.

When it comes to medical education, Cuba's approach with a strong focus on primary care has been pretty good and quite effective. And they do it without students loans.

Well, at the last debate, Bloomberg called Bernie a Communist.  Warren got more upset about that then Bernie.  It might come from Buttigieg as he's already made his point how Bernie is outside the mainstream.  With Bernie doing so well, I expect everyone, maybe even Warren, will jump on him.

How can you defend Castro?  Don;t fall into the leftist argument. It's just silly.  So after they break your arms for trying to read books the Communist regime outlaws, they send you to a hospital to fix your broken arms for free.  What good is free medical care if you're not free as a human being?

And they even manage to export them here to Mallorca: I have had a Cuban doctor once or twice, and she was perfectly good in her treatment of me. My wife had a Cuban oncologist once, too, but that was on private care.

I wonder how many regular Cubans will be visiting Mallorca this year?

Peter, Britain could do with a Mussolini too: somebody needs to get those trains working properly! Instead, they are going to spend 200 billion fish making better rail connections between the north and London, which will only serve to make it easier for the northerners to leave the north, not create new jobs in the north, whereas improving local infrastructure instead of thinking about London, would perhaps manage to create those jobs.

Indirectly, and at great cost, Hitler did just that: after the war which he lost, the Marshall Plan helped rebuild all those old factories with spanking new ones, and now those who can replace their Caddies with a Mercedes often will. Man, they even managed to buy Rolls-Royce and Bentley. So who won what?

I patted a dog once, too. But it was my own.

I'm not defending Castro, but is is remarkable how such a poor country can produce so many competent medical doctors and practitioners. They have 13 medical universities and they train also many students from other countries. Their medical system puts also a lot of emphasis on preventive care which saves lo of money and pain in the long run, whereas the western style GP's tend to push more pill consumption and often even unnecessary surgeries.

As Rob mentions, their oncologists are one of the best. Some Canadian patients travel to Cuba to get treated there with the latest methods.

Bernie reminds me of Michael Foot.

One was crazy, the other is crazy and far too old. When you consider that even Maggie began to lose it in her older years, what chance a world leader of Bernie's age? I'm older than he is, but it fills me with horror just thinking of such hands on the big red button. It would fill me with horror having my hands on that goddam button!

And at the end of the day, that's why it matters most to the world just who sits in that old white house on the hill with his hands on the biggest buttons of them all. All it takes is one damned nutter that everyone around him salutes.

So they're good with primary care and oncology.  Meanwhile the rest of the country is impoverished.  They have no freedom -  political, economic or personal.  The government is a dictatorship that kills their people if they object too much.  What good is good medical care if you're dead?

Don't copy their political system, just their medical education methods.

The problem is that Bernie wants to copy their political system as well.

You called for, when he was in his 30s and 40s, to nationalize all major industries in the country.  Of course he is smart enough not to talk about this anymore, but he has never recanted this.  Whenever he is asked about it, he says "that was how many years ago?"  Sure, but if you dont agree with it anymore, just say so.  Dont side step the question.

You can't separate the two.  Doctors don't have economic freedom. So the government pays them little.  That's how they can afford to have good medical care.  They have nothing else.  They work their butts off to get educated and then get paid nothing.  How do you copy that medically without losing your freedoms?

In any case, how do you know just how good the care is?  Do you really think Castro is giving out honest statistics about health or anything else?  All dictatorships lie about things like that.

When you think about that war, don't you find it amazing how those that lost were rebuilt by the winners. At great expense. Didn't happened all that much in the history of the world, prior to the Marshall Plan.

All this defending Castro and socialist regimes is to get us ready for Sanders run for president.  Unfortunately, ignorant Americans will fall for it like others in history.
