Nova Scotia in June
« on: February 15, 2020, 04:10:51 pm »

We’re visiting Nova Scotia for a week in June and if anyone has any suggestions for photographic locations I’d appreciate it very much.

We’re staying near a town called Kingsburg, South of Lunenburg.

Thanks in anticipation.

You certainly want to explore along the coast, but for something a bit different do spend some time in Lunenburg itself. The old town section is an historic landmark, with colorful colonial era houses and the Lunenburg School at the top of the hill.

Also just up the coast a bit from the village is Blue Rocks, with interesting rock formations and a fishing shack or two.

I have also found both sections (coastal and inland) of Kejimkujik National Park quite photogenic, and farmland just inland from Lunenburg is quite nice.

I hope others will chime is as well.

Blue Rocks is wonderful for photography as is Mahone Bay on your way to Peggy's Cove from Lunenburg. I spent many summers in Lunenburg and just wandering about the old part of town is great. Do not miss out the old Academy and the adjacent cemetery for wonderful old graves. Down on Montague street, just above the Fisheries Museum, are some delightfully painted older homes and at the west end is a very old cemetery with wonderful old grave stones.

Yes indeed!
My wife and I did the Cabot Trail back in the 1970s, during wild blueberry season.
Almost every house we passed in the few villages had a sign in the window: "Home made pies, $2."
The available flavors were: (1) Apple, from canned apples, or (2) Wild blueberry, from fresh picked berries.
We practically lived on blueberry pies for a week. Yum!

And there was lots of spectacular scenery, too.

The Cabot Trail is 500km and 5.5 hours from where we are staying but I’m certainly going to try to do it. Either that or we’ll have to go back next year and stay much further North.
Blueberry Pie sounds very nice.

The Bay of Fundy at low tide is really cool to explore. Burntcoat Head has the highest recorded tide levels and lots of interesting red rock structures. Cape Split is nice if you like to hike.
A drive along the north coast of the Bay has numerous interesting lookouts including Five Islands and Cape D'Or at the end.
Cape Forchu down in Yarmouth has a funky lighthouse, and there's tons of little villages and beaches along the south shore if you drive around and explore.

True, alas.
Start thinking about a year later. Things should have settled down by then. Just stay healthy.
