I agree that for new costumers buying into Ai the payed upgrade comes to soon. more reasonable was to start counting from the moment of the statement.

 this means NO NEW TOPAZ UPGRADES until August 2020?

Agree also.
That said I thought it very generous that Topaz gave me free upgrade from original suite of products to their very distinct AI counterparts (which had distinct input costs, no doubt).
I think there must be  a middle ground.
Certainly, as others have pointed out, it is not reasonable to have a "year's upgrades" being fritted away with beta-testing level of software glitches. Topaz may actually find they have a delay for uptake and revenues as a consequence
