Smaller 8" or 10" sized rolls of an enhanced-matte type paper?
« on: January 27, 2020, 07:15:35 pm »

I've got a new Epson P-5000 and was looking for 8" or 10" (or even 14" rolls) of paper similar to Epson's Enhanced Matte.

I checked Red River and they don't have it — anyone have an idea or lead on such a thing? I know Epson makes an 10" roll of their luster, but not matte.

Epson doesn't make a smaller roll than 17" of that paper.

Luster and glossy are available in those sizes since this can be used for things like small portraits and what not; so you're not wasting paper cutting around.
Matte will be harder to find in those sizes unfortunately.

What are you looking to print?

Pat,

The Enhanced matte is a real inexpensive paper, .29 sq.ft.
Why don't you just buy the 24" roll and cut it down. Tape the area you are going to cut with masking tape and cut it with a mitre saw.
Do it all the time here for mounting adhesives and papers.
RC papers or Polyester laminates are the ones that do not cut so good as you can melt the ends together if you go too slow.
2-12's or a 10 and 14", whatever you want really.

Hey Dan – I thought of cutting it down, but was afraid the edge would end up too rough — are you using a sharper/finer blade or just a regular wood saw blade?

I'm in a unique situation where I'm printing a ton of 8x10 and 11x14 borderless prints en-masee (100+ a day often) and they need to be on matte paper (even if some of them would look better, I think, on a luster — it's just not my call).

I'm trying to streamline as much as possible; and reduce trimming as much as possible.

I have my makita from my cabinetry days with a 100 tooth blade.
I would not cut with the standard run of the mill chop saw blade.
Many sign companies have what is called a roll slitter to cut down larger rolls. Would take some calls but you might be able to run one down.

Dry minilab papers may be an option. Inkjet based but mainly working with dye inks (HP was an exception).

But whether they will work pigment inks remains a question.
