Flat Field Correction problem
« on: January 22, 2020, 08:19:12 am »

In Lightroom I am having a hit or miss problem using Flat Field Correction. Says the first or the last image must be a flat field correction. I have tried it many different ways. I am shooting with a Phaseone IQ3 100. It does not matter what lens, I am using Rodenstock and Schneider ALPA lens in electronic shutters.

All suggestions welcome!

I assume it's LR's way of asking for an LCC?.  Based on the color cast, in the images, an LCC would be needed to correct it. LR has a way of doing LCC type processing, but I have always stayed with C1 for anything needing LCC type processing as C1 IMO has the best algorithm, especially on the CMOS backs like yours.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your response!

The Flat Field works like the LCC does in C1 when it works. I have other files that look like these files do and the Flat Field correction works fine. I have been using C1 for over 10 yrs. and I find I like working in Lightroom better. I get to merge my panoramic photos in RAW and do most of my work in RAW before exporting them out as a smart object into Photoshop. One other note, C1 v 20 has a huge problem applying the LCC to files. I need to turn off the computer graphics accelerator to get the files to apply the LCC and this is hit or miss. After apply LCC process is complete there are funky artifacts that I need to cleaned up. Capture One Support has known about this problem from the release of C1 v 20. The problem still exist and I am hoping they fix it soon.

I respect your opinion and appreciate your advice.

If anyone is using Lightroom to process LCC files please reach out to me.

Thank You,
Bob

I just spent 3 hours on hold and other 2 hours working with an Adobe Lightroom specialist... The outcome from his prospective was that since the LCC worked on some of the files that it was not a Lightroom problem, it was a file problem. I told him that from my prospective, since Adobe has NOT updated the Flat Field Correct plugin since 2013 and camera have made massive changes since then, perhaps they should consider looking at why some of my files do not work. I hope Adobe come to the conclusion that they should update their Flat Field Plugin to work with the newer cameras.

He took the files and said he would pass them along to the Support Team and see what they thought. I am not holding my breath.

If anyone has any pull in Adobe please let them know about this issue.

Thanks,
Bob

Adobe's raw conversion on the 3100 files that are 16 bit IMO has always been lacking.  If the image is needing any push in shadows, you get a red tint to the file.  I have opened several issues with them over the years, but have given up.  Adobe tends to be a one and done on many cameras.

I agree their current Flat Field needs to be updated as it's based on results from the IQ180 80MP back, and never has been adjusted for the CMOS backs, which have quite a bit of color cast, besides the IQ4, which seems to have resolved that issue based on the images I have seen.
