I like their reference to "saving money" wherein lies, I suspect the motivation, Venice be damned!
Anyway, considering the renditions of plastic women they all seem to favour these days, perhaps a return to illustration could be a welcome thing - reality was mostly lost some years ago - and spread the work around a bit. Photography seems to have ground to a halt, with everybody aping everybody else, with but a handfull of exceptions that held onto their own style for decades. One of those suddenly died a short while ago.
Thinking about this a bit more, it might seem a bit of a coincidence that a few of the top money earners were dropped on the basis of the Me Too commotion. Yeah, kinda convenient in my eyes... fresh editiorial photographer blood might come pretty cheaply these days.
I'd hope an illustrator wouldn't have to do it tied to a common monitor or a bunch of iPhones, with fifty commenting heads watching every stroke.
