I like their reference to "saving money" wherein lies, I suspect the motivation, Venice be damned!

Anyway, considering the renditions of plastic women they all seem to favour these days, perhaps a return to illustration could be a welcome thing - reality was mostly lost some years ago - and spread the work around a bit. Photography seems to have ground to a halt, with everybody aping everybody else, with but a handfull of exceptions that held onto their own style for decades. One of those suddenly died a short while ago.

Thinking about this a bit more, it might seem a bit of a coincidence that a few of the top money earners were dropped on the basis of the Me Too commotion. Yeah, kinda convenient in my eyes... fresh editiorial photographer blood might come pretty cheaply these days.

I'd hope an illustrator wouldn't have to do it tied to a common monitor or a bunch of iPhones, with fifty commenting heads watching every stroke.

Vogue Italia will not feature any photo shoots in its January 2020 issue.

Vogue Italia will not feature any photo shoots in its January 2020 issue

What a bullshit.

Maybe it would be a better idea to tune down the photoshoot approach and lower the cost instead of simply discarding it with such a foolish excuse.
How more can you give a final neck-shot to a already suffering business, aka photography.

....

Intellectual honesty,..... huh.

According to Farneti, the decision to omit photo shoots from the January issue was made on the basis of "intellectual honesty" – and the acknowledgement that “there is a significant environmental impact associated with publishing a fashion magazine”.

The world is now saved...sure. If Farneti truly believes that...Stop all publishing. At least Vogue Italia!

Out of curiosity I looked at the magazines circulation figures. 100 000 a month. They are accessed online about 50 000 times a month on various devices mostly mobile phones of course. Their insta account has 3,3 million followers. Compare that to Kim Kardashian with 155 million followers.

I know a local photographer who shoots for the Insta mega stars. He is flying business class all over the world and is making buckets of money. The photographic world hasn’t ended but it has moved on.

That's interesting to read. So he is the one who shoots the insta influencers with the iPhone in front of their face...... I thought it was a mirror.

The big influences will fairly frequently set up a proper shoot with location scouts, stylists and so on. It’s not all selfies.

I have this sneaking suspicion that our ages preclude us from knowing these things.

There are people, individuals, with over 100 million followers. There is a local guy, lives in CapeTown, who works out product placement rates based on local magazine circulations advertising rates. He has more followers than any local magazines have circulation and he charges accordingly. He will sometimes hire photographers for shoots.

It’s a thing.

Especially if, like me, you don't join these platforms.

LuLa takes up enough time as it is; any more "outlets" and I'd probably forget to eat. I'm skinny enough already, thanks!

"PS. Photography, as we new it, is Dead, killed by the internet and the I-Phone. I believe that it is a good thing. As Humans we should always look ahead, don’t stop progress. I think that it’s democracy at work, no more overpaid “Great Photographers” everybody with an I-Phone can do it, Halleluya and good luck with your Selfies."

The above comes from the Interview you can find in the original link to the Glaviano site.

http://www.marcoglaviano.com/interview

Hard to believe that it's penned by his daughter, Alessia, who I believe works as a senior photo editor at Vogue Italia.

When you consider he is/was one of the top guys in the business, makes me wonder if she's lost her mind. Or is fanning some inner hurt.

Neither can she always spell correctly, which is surprising.
