What's wrong?
The graffiti are for those OUTSIDE, those who cannot afford first class.
First class passengers are inside a luxurious waggon, they don't see the graffiti.

Maybe I'm wrong but the contrast between the dingy, crappy train and the elegant roof are what makes the picture. It's sort of a comment on what's happening to Europe.

Imissed the point because to me, the "dingy, crappy train" just looks so shiny and new, compared to any of the commuter trains or even AMTRAK trains we see in Boston.

The advantages of being upper class

Are the graffiti a result of art urge without legitimate outlet; class hatred; sponsored social project to keep walls free of paint, on the basis that the train keeps rolling on, never spoiling the same view for too long?

Whatever the cause, it is surprising that those who do this stuff never stop to think about how much more attractive their environment would be without it. At least, one hopes this is not an improvement.
