A piece of trivia. Pretty much all the yellow bananas that we eat are a single variety "Cavendish", but why the name?
Not far from where we live is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Devonshire, Chatsworth House, in whose greenhouses the Cavendish variety was developed in the 19th century. And Cavendish is the family name of the Dukes of Devonshire. I love these little snippets that tie us to the past.
