Not A Photograph But
« on: December 25, 2019, 07:49:45 am »

This is an 18x24 portrait done entirely in #2 pencil. The artist is a friend of a friend and his work is just amazing to me.

That's a fine portrait, Kevin.

And it illustrates quite well why some of us have taken to the camera. I can't seem to control a pencil much at all.

It's well done and you should encourage the artist to keep on drawing.

Thanks al lot guys!! the artist just does these as a hobby, he's 79 years of and is one heck of a nice guy! Here's another one of his works. Judging from the titles, both these are 18x24 inches. I've been trying to get him to sell me one but he won't take money; and me, being just as stubborn, will not take it for free.

These drawings reminded me of the excellent photographs of American Indians by U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater (1909-1998), some of which you can find here.

Wonderful drawings.  My friend Mel Greifinger, a graphic artist, used to paint Indian scenes.  He told me her really enjoyed doing them. Here's a couple.

Kevin,
You might try offering to make a donation to a charity of his choosing if he will give you a "free" one.

Hi guys, thanks again for the comments, links, and suggestions. I never thought to ask him if his inspiration was from seeing photos or other renderings of the American Indian. Alan, your friend does some lovely work, Chris, I never knew about Barry Goldwater being a photographer, I did know he was a Ham Radio Operator but not a photo shooter.
