Epson "Media Type" missing profiles for a 9900
« on: December 18, 2019, 04:39:11 pm »

I recently bought a new Mac, not realizing Apple had updated the OS to Catalina. For years, I have been running my prints on canvas by using the media type Premium Canvas Matte paired with the SP 7900 9900 PCM MK 1440 printer profile. However, I cannot locate the Premium Canvas Matte in the print settings > media type > fine art papers any more in Catalina. It seems Epson must have replaced it with a generic "canvas" choice, but running it is not giving me the same results as I had on the previous OS. I have tried removing and adding the 9900 in the system prefs using the Spro driver but it still gives me the same choices. Anyone have an idea how to add that paper back into the media type choices?

You can't 'add back' a media setting in the driver. It's hard wired. If indeed it's been replaced with something new, and if indeed it's 'different' then legacy profiles built with the older settings will not work well. It's odd they would do this without updating the profiles but other than that, you will have to re-profile over the newer media setting for Canvas.

I did reach out to Epson via email. None of the steps brought back the media type nor replicated my previous color results when using the "canvas" type along with their recommended settings. I was afraid I might have to re-profile since it's a large body of work. I can come close to the previous results, but it is still off enough that I notice. Thanks for the feedback.

I did reach out to Epson via email.
Good luck with that. My experience is that "Epson Support" is an oxymoron.
Their profile for Epson Hot Press Natural for the P800 does not allow a roll feed option even though they sell it in rolls.
