« on: December 15, 2019, 07:25:04 pm »

taken 14-15 December 2019

Sony 24-105 and 400mm F2.8 with 1.4x TC

a wide angle and a 100-400m zoom (at about 300mm) is all that is needed here

Australasian Gannet except for #3 which is a Cape Gannet (South Africa) - a rare bird here in NZ

This looks very much like a gannetry I once visited many years ago on the North Atlantic coast. The din was unbelievable, yet a returning parent had no trouble picking his or her spouse's voice out of the din.

They are fascinating birds.
A fine set of photos.

This looks very much like a gannetry ...
Very much reminds me of the gannetry at St. Mary's in Newfoundand except the fog is missing. Oh, and thankfully the odour doesn't come through in the images.  Fascinating and beautiful birds but the chicks have it pretty rough in these tight colonies.
I enjoyed your shots.

Nice set and my favorite is the first one. The good thing with photos is that we can avoid the smell usually associated with those sites.
Well seen!
