Other printers that use the same Lucia ink as the Canon pro-10?
« on: December 11, 2019, 07:01:43 pm »

I have been looking, but google hasn't answered this question for me.
My main printing is done on a ipf8400.  Great machine.
I am getting a canon pro-10 printer mainly to print small sheet test prints and give-aways.
I give a lot of these away to the highschool football team, etc.  Cost does matter, but I do not want to even give away crap that fades.
The pro-10 is replacing a misused 3880.  I was able to refill 3880 cartridges for years with oem epson inks from the larger cartridges of the 9600.  Saved me a fortune but I was able to still use oem inks.
Does anyone know if there is a large format canon printer that uses the same ink as the pro-10?
I prefer to stay oem ink, but it is much cheaper to buy a 330 or 700cc cartridge and refill.
Thanks for any guidance.

My understanding is that all the Canon pigment printers use the same ink from the Pro-10 to the Pro 4000.

Thanks, I hope that is the case.
I was told the pro-1000 uses a different inkset, but I have no way to confirm.

If any, older printers, not the current Pro-1000 etc.

I tend to suspect that the Pro-10 does not use the same inks as the Pro-1000, Pro-2000, etc. AFAIK, the Pro-10's inks are described simply as "Lucia" inks, same as the older Pro 9500 and Pro-1. The Pro-1000, Pro-2000, etc. use "Lucia Pro" inks. The Pro-10 was introduced in 2012, and the first printer using "Lucia Pro" inks, the Pro-1000 was not introduced until 2015. So your best or safest bet may be refilling with inks from cartridges designed for the Pro-1. If the 36ml cartridges for the Pro-1 don't seem like worthwhile ink sources, the next-best bet may be the cartridges for the Pro-10's contemporaries the iPF 6400 and iPF8400, which are however called "Lucia EX" inks, although that may refer to the additional colors and the improvements to these inks relative to the older Lucia inks for the iPF6100, 6200, and 8100.

Thanks, that gives me a lot of food for thought.
My main printer is an ipf8400.  I may steal a little ink from it and see.  It would be really convenient and cost effective if both could use the same inks.  I need a sheet feed, printing single sheets from the 8400 is painful.
Thanks so much
