Canon PRO2000 - can I use without Photo Black?
« on: December 10, 2019, 05:53:15 am »

Hi Folks, I find it annoying that I never use Photo Black or the Chroma Optimiser in the Canon PRO2000, yet I have to replace them as they get used up when the printer does self-cleaning. Is there any way around this? Many thanks

- It's not possible to stop the cleaning on CO and PBK (as far as I know).

- You can turn off the use of CO by using a media type based on "Lightweight Photo Paper CO OFF" or "Heavyweight Photo Paper CO OFF" but these are PBK media types.

- Many Canon PRO-2000 media types use both blacks simultaneously. Are you sure you don't use any of these media types?

Thanks Panagiotis, you've made a good point. I'm not 100% sure I don't use Photo Black; will have to try and find out. I don't use it on Matt canvas as it never dries! I may be using it unkowingly on Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl.

It's really based on media type per which black is used.  If a media type works on the opposite black setting, but you want to change which black is used, use the MCT (Media Configuration Tool) to create that media type and switch the black.  If you haven't downloaded the MCT, it's free off Canon's site.

All cartridges will go through the cleaning process since they each have separate lines to the head.

Technically, anything that has no sheen will use the Matte Black and with a sheen uses Photo.  If you print on the Smooth Pearl, it will use Photo Black.  But again, you can change the setting if the other black works better on the media type by creating a new media type from the MCT.
