It took me a moment to understand what I was seeing, but then I found the effect very interesting.

Very strange effect; doesn't look photographic at all.

Maybe this is partly what Nick Knight is talking about re. using his iPhone and "imaging" instead of photographing?

It would be interesting to see a direct comparison of this location as shot by Sally Mann at the very same time. I'm quite sure that Russ would have enjoyed that - I certainly would!

It looks a bit like HDR, but it isn't. The low, evening sun was very intense.
