canon ipf5000 and 16 bit photoshop plugin

i like to use the 16 bit plugin in photoshop for prints. in the main tab of the plugin, what do you set your output profile to. for example if i am using canon photopaper plus semi gloss, i select that media type, but i am confused about the output profile settings. any ideas.

is it better to create your own custom profiles or outsource to another agent. which one will you recommend.

In the export plugin window, you would select the output profile that correlates to the media type you're using (in your case the Photo Paper Plus Semigloss). In my experience, custom ICC profiles usually do make an improvement, but with many of these newer printers the factory profiles are pretty good.

Making your own profiles is an option, but pretty expensive to get into. Plan on spending at least $1000 for a decent spectrophotometer and its accompanying software. The iOne system is pretty decent. Otherwise there plenty of color consultants who are happy to generate output profiles for you remotely. For instance, Chromix makes good profiles.
