Peek'a Boo
« on: November 16, 2019, 04:23:50 pm »

One life to explore. Up into the unknown, deep into the dark forest, then out onto the open avalanche shoots, onto the cliffs, and above the world it seems... we find solace, beauty, solitude, comfort, and a connection with nature so great it's hard to understand why anything else matters.

I may have posted this before. I was never satisfied. The composition will never work here perhaps. But I've never seen this waterfall from anyone else, and it's a special place. So I've come as close to finishing it as possible. The technical details here is that it was shot too dark, no brackets. I was trying to recover dynamic range and color but anywhere I moved the image it looked grungy and unappealing.

I've announced a patagonia fjords trip: https://www.depictionsofbeauty.com/Photo-Tours - There has never been an opportunity to go to the fjords this cheap. It's geared towards amateur photogs moving towards pro.

I'd be pretty satisfied with that, even if the lighting could have been a smidgeon better.

Despite your discouragement, it is nonetheless a spectacular photograph and unique POV.

Maybe you will revisit either the file or the location and improve upon it, but as it is, well done!

Many of us would have wished to have taken such a “troublesome” shot.

It is as it was, and I like it like this.

Sometimes I try to "improve" some photos, but 99% of the time, I try to remember what I saw, and use sliders and filters very lightly.

Very nice. Wouldn't be troubled at all with that.

It's possible. Mostly because I'd like to explore higher - on the exposed ridge-line above. And expand - but the thing is I have so many phenomenal shots of this peak, that it's sort of almost a waste of time. Maybe just process the other shots I have and keep exploring the planet. The problem is, Fitz Roy is so far, bar none, the most picturesque peak I've ever seen.

You may not be satisfied with this superb shot but I like it a lot and the waterfall is an aded bonus. I don't find any really negative thing to say and I would be proud of it. As Voltaire wrote: the best is the enemy of the good.

Well thank you sir. Maybe I just looked at it too long before finally pushing it out.

At this size is excellent, I think the atmosphere/colors can compensate for many technical flaws that you think it might have.
