Using Sony lenses on Canon 5D Mk IV...?
« on: November 01, 2019, 02:04:07 pm »

I want to replace my old Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro.

I'm torn between the Canon 100mm L Series Macro and the Sony 90mm Macro.

The reviews for the Sony macro are universally superb.

I'm tempted to go with the Sony macro.

Has anyone any experience of using Sony lenses on Canon cameras?

Which is the best adapter to use?

Are all features available? Shooting tethered is vital for me.

Any other advice or suggestions?

Many thanks.

Great lens, I use it a lot for product photography. A real bread and butter lens. Didn’t know you could mount Sony lenses on Canon.

Impossible.

Pity.

Canon lens to Sony camera adapters are two a penny.

I thought the reverse might be possible too.

It’s physically impossible to mount Sony mirrorless lenses on Canon DSLR because the flange distance is much shorter.

Have you considered Zeiss, Nikon or Tamron options?

Cheers,

It is always one way only: shallower lens mount to lenses designed for a deeper mount.
These days that mostly means SLR lenses with mirrorless bodies.

Thanks for the replies.

Zeiss is nice, except for price and manual focus.

Tamron is probably the lens in the frame now. Much cheaper than the Canon L, and it seems to be as good.
