Backyard
« on: October 31, 2019, 06:52:16 pm »

First sleet/snow, had to go outside for some quick grabs.
First 3 are handheld, last 3 are on a tripod as I was shivering too bad to get anything sharp.

hh and tri-3 are nice. You could look at hh cropped to roughly square around the 3 central leaves as an option. In the jpeg Tri doesn't appear to have the bunch of leaves that are the central most subject in any kind of focus except for a tiny little area(s)? It would have been a very nice image if there was a "reasonable" amount of focus on the "central subject" and the snow or ice(?) on leaves - and the bg OOF as is which is nice.

Yes, I was determined to shoot wide open at F1.8 so I set the iso to 64. When I wanted more dof I decreased the aperture but didn't go higher on the iso, which lead to a very impressionistic shot due to the wind. I was too cold to try increasing the iso particularly as the background from a previously stopped down shot was not very nice, see attached at F11 (and 5 sec exposure vs 1/8sec for the one initially posted). Another option was to combine the foreground from a stopped down shot with the background from the wide open shot but with all the movement would have been difficult, and honestly I didn't think the shot is that nice to worth the extra effort.

It's the last shot for me. Combining the earth with the light and sky (heavens) is both surreal and symbolic!
