Fractured Politics
« on: October 27, 2019, 08:35:05 pm »

In the latest state-level elections in Thuringia in Germany, the voters decided on the following results:

The Linke won 29.7% of the vote, the AfD won 23.8%, the CDU 22.5%, the Social Democrats (SPD) 8.5%, the Greens 5.4% and the Free Democrats 5.0%. The result will make coalition building tricky. Similar results came out in earlier two other state elections.

Linke is ultra left, AfD ultra right, CDU centre right, SPD centre left, Free Democrates centre right, Greens are anti-business environmentalists.
Really fractured voting result and a sign of the times to come also in other jurisdictions.

There is 5.1% missing from 100. Smaller parties?

The right has the most, 51.3%. The left (Linke, SPD, Greens) is at 43.6. Looks like a sure coalition for the right, no?

I wonder how it will end there. The ultra left party Linke is populated by the ex-communists, the far right AfD gets support from Neo Nazis.
The big question for that country is how the elections in their other states will turn out.

In Canada, we observed last week a similar vote fracture trend, also with four main parties.

Quote
The Liberals lost the popular vote to the Conservatives, which marks only the second time in Canadian history that a governing party will form a government while receiving less than 35 percent of the national popular vote. The Liberals received the lowest percentage of the national popular vote of a governing party in Canadian history.

It seems Trump isn;t the only leader who gets lambasted by their nation's comedians.  Howie Mandel, a Canadian, compiled this list of all of Justin Trudeau’s “accomplishments”.  There's an argument as to whether Mandell actually composed it.  But whoever it was, it's pretty funny and biting.
