Thank you, Russ and Eric.

Eric - re. the 4th one, it is as if it is being held by a giant thumb, something I noticed only on the screen.

Nice. I think I prefer #3, for the sense of place and scale.

Intriguing...

Yes.

I am puzzled by the scale. 10 m? 100 m?

You know I am not even sure what I am looking at here, but I do know that I like it  ;)

My guess would be it is huge amounts of semi molten magma, being slowly extruded out onto the surface of the earth's crust - marvellous stuff Rajan.

Paulo, Francois, Scott, and Dave - thank you.

Scott - the length of the 'tongue' is around 400 metres, height around 100 metres.

Dave - it is a volcanic plug in a fissure zone. The red is on account of the oxidation of iron.

Thanks for asking, Dave.  I was wondering, too. :)

Beautiful, whatever geology it is.  It actually looks metallic.

Thanks, again, Rajan for showing us amazing Iceland.

One of the people I was shooting with yesterday was lamenting not being able to go back to Iceland until his wife retires. From your images and his descriptions, it sounds like a marvelous photographic wonder...perhaps someday, I too will make that journey.

Excellent images of an other-worldly place. Would love to see it myself.
