I imagine you meant for it to be somewhat dark but it seems overly dark on my screen.

Matt,I did intend for it to be dark. There is some small amount of detail in the dark areas but I didn't want too much. I use a spyder calibrated BenQ 27 monitor, if that helps. Sometimes I wonder too if what I see is too dark compared to what others see. Should I lighten it a bit for better critiquing?

It's also very dark on my monitor but I like it. Try to submit a slightly lighter version so we can compare.

Great subject, composition, along with the general "feeling/atmoshphere" - along with the deep "blacks". That said, I think they can be deep but not crushed - a good deal of those areas "appear to be" crushed though. I think you can get deep deep blacks without blowing it out to no detail and I think this would be a better direction to go. This is a very subtle change to be clear.

Another file of the same image. Not as under exposed as the last one I used. Better?

I thought I was the only one who did that from time to time.

As for the images, I much prefer the dark, moody, mysterioso first version, even though I, too, at first thought it was a bit too dark.
