Texture near and far make for a nice abstract.

I like it but I think a tighter croop/zoom might improve it. The ice is great and the background is just ok.

Interesting you should say that, Matt. I did a little more work on the image shortly after I'd posted it. I've not altered the cropping (I rather like the context, and I have lots of "texture" ice shots), but I have used a circular mask in LR to change the emphasis. I think it's an improvement.

I agree that showcases it better. Great texture.

It certainly does have a fine overall abstract quality and the texture comes through nicely. If the white upper left ice was not so distracting, this image would really be outstanding, IMO. If you are not averse to cloning, you may want to give it a try.

Sorry, no. Try a high-key instead. The now even more dark, yellow patch in the upper left is quite distracting. There is nothing of value in the out-of-focus parts, especially in the background.

Slobodan certainly knows his stuff (at least about photography   ;) ) so I would give his suggestions a try.
My own preference would be to keep the tonalities dark and clone out the two distracting background areas in the upper left.

I agree with what's been told. The ice is nice and I see why you are having trouble letting go but the background just doesn't work.
Slobodan's suggestion with high key (getting a bright featureless background might be the only hope).
