San Marco square, sunrise
« on: August 08, 2019, 02:07:05 pm »

One of the few perks of going to Venice in the middle of summer is that very few people are up for sunrise at 5 am, and you get San Marco square all for yourself :) A couple of seconds exposure with my Demo Hasselblad X1D II, Hasselblad XCD 21mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters.

Thank you for viewing, best regards

So nice not having to clone out the crowds of people.
Very nice image.

I've never seen the piazza so empty.  A beautiful shot!

Good stuff, Vieri, but I don't agree with Eric. People make the picture. They're a lot more important than the landscape or the structures.

I agree Russ, but the tourist masses at San Marco square are shocking.  I prefer Venice in winter, far less tourists (though I know I'm one too).

I don't know of any way to avoid it, Mike. Just enjoy when you're thee.

Russ, I won't go into the hundred-years old debate about people in cityscapes (and in photography in general), let's just say that people don't make the picture, people make the picture for you, which is a very different thing. There are no absolutes here, personally I find the surreal feel of photographing such a crowded place with no people interesting and inspiring, but I appreciate it that you and others might feel differently about it - so, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one :)

Best regards,

Fantastic… I like the empty place and the soft, sunrise colors.

Beautiful shot...a single figure walking with a slight blur would take the image from being a little eerily haunted, to a comfortable space.

Both shots would be equally valid. Beautiful time of day. Eerily Haunted is good as is comfortable.

Thank you very much Peter, glad you enjoyed the pic and I agree, both would have been good. Different, but good - there is very rarely, if ever, just one truth in art :)
