Cutting Canvas On a Z3200
« on: July 22, 2019, 07:25:54 am »

I seem to be in a canvas printing phase at present and can't find a satisfactory way to cut the stuff between prints. If I'm printing one after the other I wait till the cut line is clear of the printer and cut with scissors but if I'm printing just one I use the Form Feed & Cut button to move the print out far enough to cut. If I was printing on paper I could then use the same function to wind the paper back ready for the next print but with canvas this function is not available so I have to lift the blue lever, wind back manually, drop the lever and hope the printer doesn't decide the canvas is now loaded wrong and make me reload from scratch. Any suggestions for a slicker procedure?

Thanks, William.

Most of us a Utility Knife or safety razor and cut the canvas using the slot available on the front side of the printer -guess it's a slot left from the trim in front.  Otherwise, I use move paper and roll it out on a table and use a straight edge.  I have a great pair of electric shears that I sometimes use, keeping the shears against the front of the printer for a guide.

Hope these things help.  Not too much more we can do....

So do you advance it to there with the Form Feed button? Then what, do you have a way to retract it or do you just write off the 12" or so as waste? Presumably HP changed the function of that button when canvas is loaded to prevent inadvertent activation of the cutter but in the process also took away the bit that would have been a great convenience when printing on canvas.

William.

If you go into the menu on the printer, and go to PAPER > MOVE PAPER you can move it forward and back.

I never use the form feed button preferring to have as much control as I can.

I haven't used canvas in a while but when I was printing I remember tricking the printer into thinking fine art paper was loaded by going into PAPER > CHANGE PAPER TYPE > FINE ART PAPER.  Then you can do pretty much what you want, BUT... Dont' cut it, LOL.

Genius! Can't believe I've been using Zs for more than a decade and never found this.

Many Thanks, WIlliam.
