A landscape photographer's Hasselblad X1D review
« on: May 26, 2019, 04:12:29 am »

Ladies and gentlemen, for a little Sunday read, and for those interested, I just published my Hasselblad X1D review, seen under a landscape photographer's perspective.

As a landscape photographer, my in-depth Hasselblad X1D review will mainly deal with the use of the camera for a pretty specific genre of photography. I am also well aware that I am late to the party, with the Hasselblad X1D now reaching its third year of existence and with many reviews already out there. However, I think that it is exactly due to my very specific approach to using the Hasselblad X1D, and to my own approach to photography, that adding one more review to the many already out there might still prove of interest. This Hasselblad X1D review is the result of more than six months of experience using the camera for my professional work day-in, day-out, not one based on resolution charts and the like.

Read on to find out what I thought about this amazingly small medium format camera!

Thanks for the review. I would love to have the luxury of all XCD lenses. (:-)
Currently I only have the XCD90 and use that in the studio with flash.
I use my Canon TSE24mm with an adaptor for landscapes and find that works brilliantly and the tilt shift can be used without vignetting for about half the range.
I will probably get an XCD45 or 67 or an HC 50 for wider flash work in the studio.
Compared to the H4D that it replaced, it means a truly walking portable medium format kit.

Hey Bob,

thank you for reading and commenting, much appreciated, glad you enjoyed it :) I think the 24 T/S is a great option, and so should be the 17mm T/S for landscapes. Your choice for studio sounds pretty good to me!

My 45mm & 90mm XCD paired with X1D works great for my landscapes. This being my 4th Hasselblad I find it is really great, altho' do miss my old SWC/M, should've kept it, was excellent for architectural work. I find your review very honest, unbiased & informative, enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing it.
For compressed cityscapes I'd love to have 135mm w/1.7TC, maybe a little later.

Hello Shawn,

thank you for your comment, I am glad you enjoyed the review! :) X1D + 45 & 90mm is a great combo, me being a ultra-wide lover I also have the 21 & 30mm (and the Voigtlander 15mm as a reinforcement!). The 135mm sounds like a great lens, hopefully it will be more widely available in the near future. Best regards,
