It would be a help if you would try to go to my site www.peteraitken.com and tell me if it works or if you get a "site not found" or similar message. I am trying to diagnose some tech problems. Thanks!

Yes, it works, and it loads extremely quickly. What website building tool are you using?

The tab of *Woman in historical dress", Havana, Cuba
is "Fence in Fog"
Clicking on any of the three pics opens the picture (dragonfly etc) But from there you don't go anywhere else, back or forward.

It loads quickly. On an aesthetic point, I don't find underlining attractive, particularly not when the underlined text has descenders.

I do not know if you care, but the site design has such a retro, the 90's look to it.

I use an old version of Dreamweaver. I do some hand-coding as well.

Thanks all. The problem, while not solved, has been localized to my cable connection. Just what I want to do, talk to god-damn Spectrum!

The problem turned out the be with the hosting company's server. For unknown reasons, my IP address got on their "block" list. All is now fixed.

Are you using Go Daddy???  They are having a huge number of problems that started over the past weekend.  I've already talked with three tech reps via chat and they still have not fixed all the issues with my site.  The https version cannot be redirected to and will not open on it's own.  I'm supposed to wait for 72 hours now to see if what we did yesterday fixed things (I'm doubtful).

I often wonder, as someone who designed, built and maintains his own website, whether it is simply a conceit, or at best a thankless labour of love?

In my case it was a fun way to learn HTML coding and build a site from the ground up.  My web sales since I built the site are pretty much break even with the yearly cost.

I'm not questioning the commercial value of such a site, my own, over the years, has proved to be invaluable.

The upside of designing and building the site from the ground up is of course that it is bespoke, the downside is that it is time consuming and at times distracting.
