At first glance the image looked awfully dark. But then that face emerged from the gloom, and I was hooked.
A powerful portrait.

Thanks Eric.  The turtle was in shadow when I took the picture.  Given the way
that the natural light fell in this scene I decided to emphasize the turtle's face -- a part
of a snapping turtle's anatomy not often available for gazing.

The thumbnail didn't inspire me much but the full res shot is stunning.
Handling of the shadows is perfect and I wish I could do the same for some of my shots.
