A note to users of expired inks. I too use 1-2 year expired inks, which I shop for on ebay, but this is for an HP printer, that has user replaceable print heads that are cheap $64/ 2 colors. I would be more careful with Epson printers though.
Pigmented inks are a suspension, and do settle and coagulate with time. The coagulation of pigments is what can clog the print head. Even with vigorous shaking, they are difficult if not impossible to re-suspend well. Canon, Epson and HP do have additives in the ink to keep them suspended, and tend to work quite well, but I would still be very careful about using expired inks, especially in Epson printers where print head replacement is a costly venture.
