Wonder photos by Kazuyoshi Nomachi, but I need to point out he was not the first outsider to photograph the Haj. I almost had that honor myself when I was friends with man who was born in the mosque of the prophet, and whose grandfather was the Haj minister decades ago. But he couldn't swing it. I won't convert.
But to my point, Thomas J. Abercrome was the first photographer I know of who photographed the Haj long ago (the 1960s I believe). He has a wonderful photo of the crowd circling around the Kabba in a long exposure. Wonderful stuff too.
