« on: April 20, 2019, 01:39:42 pm »

Hello

Does someone know a tool that show the focus distance in EXIF data for macOS?

Hello Jochen,

The EXIF tools by Phil Harvey - these are basically the standard tools with which you can also change EXIF data.

https://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

The tag is for IQ3/IQ4 - SubjectDistance

Some older fully electronic Mamiya AF lenses (such as the 300mm F4.5) do not write Focus Distance to EXIF data.

Hello Peter

Thanks so lot.

I have download the tool for macOS X (10.13.6)
I have install it.
I see that ExifTool 11.37 must start in Terminal.
I open Terminal and carry out "ExifTool"
Someone happens and a lot of information comes, but I don't see the application?

Hello Jochen,

EXIF Tools is a very powerful CMD processor for different GUI and applications.

If you continue to scroll down the page - (https://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/) - you will see several applications for MAC or multiplatform for the EXIF tools. Also plugins for Phoshop or similar.

For example, EXIF Tools GUI for MAC https://hvdwolf.github.io/pyExifToolGUI/

CMD example:

exiftool -k -a -u -g1 -w txt filename.IIQ

Extracts all metadata from file filename.IIQ and writes them to a text file filename.txt in the same directory.

OK.

I see on page the application GraphicConverter.
I use this application. in which way can I use GraphicConverter and EXIFTools?

For example, EXIF Tools GUI for MAC https://hvdwolf.github.io/pyExifToolGUI/
I download pyExifToolGUI.
I install it in folder application.
When I start pyExifToolGUI some remarks come, see screenshot.
That is the end of my understanding.

CMD example:

exiftool -k -a -u -g1 -w txt filename.IIQ

Extracts all metadata from file filename.IIQ and writes them to a text file filename.txt in the same directory.

Must I put in this CMD in Terminal?

Hello Gerd.
The PO System don‘t write the focus distance in the EXIF.
PO confirmed that.
I check it with application GraphicConverter where I see different files from Sony A7 and PO XF.
So I don’t need the recommended application.

Thanks Jochen!

So Phase confirmed NO? I also thought it would be damn useful so I spent hours trying to make it work for my XF! Now I know it can't. Perhaps a Capture upgrade? I use the PCTS 120 Apo and CO monitors and reports all the lens movements which is brilliant, so surely Phase can easily add AF focal distance data to the metadata since camera's have to use it in order to focus properly.

But thank you for your insight!

Hello Jochen,

for me, the value is definitely there. But I have current IQ4. Maybe it does not exist on IQ3 or older. I would have to browse my older RAW data when I'm back home.

Hello Gerd

Did You check the distance in older RAWs from IQ3?

Have you checked whether it’s real? Or always the same distance?

The 1.328m from my ScreenShot are correct. This was with IQ4 Archomatic, SK 35mm Br. LS on a distant edge of the forest (at ~ infinity). I have only noticed so far that with the SK 120mm Macro Br. LS - from time to time - is absolute nonsense in the subject distance.

As I said, I'll check the rest today later with IQ3 and different subject distance values.

How could the distant edge of the forest (at ~ infinity) be 1.328m?

1.328m = one thousand three hundred and twenty-eight?

Oh. I read it as one point three two eight meters. How do you write that?
