IPF 8400 Maintenance Cartridge question
« on: April 06, 2019, 03:18:17 pm »

My ipf8400 has been giving the message for the last several weeks:
Maint. cart.  The level is low.
I have a new cartridge ready to install.  I assume I can keep printing until the printer actually stops, or should I replace it now?
Just want to double check.
Thanks
Gary

I wait until the printer stops and needs the replacement.  Cheaper that way and I've never encountered problems following that procedure.

Thanks
Just wanted to confirm I could continue printing until the printer stops.
Just printed some 30x30" images- glorious.

I have the ipf6400 and was curious if I could reuse the cartridges the way I could on my Epsons so I reset it to 100% in maintenance mode and then took it apart and cleaned it out reinstalled it and now it works fine. It is a lot of work though so if time is more important to you than money putting a new one in is much easier.

I usually reset maintenance carts on my 8300 twice before replacing, without any cleaning out of the cart. When I finally do replace the cart, it is heavy with ink but there is no liquid visible or any chance of spills. I think Canon's conservatism in this area is driven by profit motive.

If I remember correctly, if you are going to reset, it has to be done before the cart shows full.

Thanks.
I just wanted to make sure ink was not going to be sloshing around throughout the printer.
Still has not stopped printing.  I do not mind putting in a new one.
I do not print a lot, and sporadically at that.  I am still on my 2nd maintenance cartridge in over 4 years.
I can handle that.  Great printer.

The reason why the manufacturer's have the tank not really show ink to be visible is if the sponge is too full and the ink can possibly leak into the printer which can cause major issues to the unit itself.  You may be able to trick it for so long, but it's not recommended and keeps your printer safe.

If it gets close, I'd wait until it gives a notice that it needs replaced.  Normally, it will just inform you it's getting close and to be prepared to get a new one so you're not waiting for it to come in and be down until it arrives.

Hope this helps.
