Release Cord and charging station for Hasselblad X1D
« on: March 14, 2019, 10:33:05 pm »

Just announced
If you need one then here it is.
RELEASE CORD X

The Hasselblad Release Cord X allows for remote shutter control, helping to eliminate shake or vibration. A durable cloth-wrapped 90cm (36 in.) cable connects to the X1D-50cís microphone input port and the remoteís simple single button operation allows photographers to isolate movement to a minimum. When autofocus is enabled on the camera, a single action swiftly starts autofocus and consequently releases the shutter. Holding the button down while in Continuous Capture mode allows for multiple frames to be captured, while setting the camera in Manual Focus mode allows for Release Cord X to fire the shutter without delay.

BATTERY CHARGING HUB
Streamlining the battery charging process, the new Hasselblad Battery Charging Hub contains dual slots that support the simultaneous charging of two batteries. An integrated USB Type-C connector supports mains power via an included power supply or from common external USB battery banks (sold separately). Front-facing LEDs indicate status and capacity when charging. The Battery Charging Hub supports both first-generation 3200mAh X System batteries and current 3400mAh batteries, the latter of which support quick-charging up to 25% faster than the former.

It had been one of the most glaring shortcomings of the X1D, so itís obviously a very welcome addition.

I do wonder why it has taken them 2.5 long years though.

It does raise strong questions about Hasselblad as a credible provider of mission critical pro equipment.

Cheers,
Bernard

Ditto Bernard, plus if the remote is lacking a 2.5mm in it still can't be used with motion tools.

I for one certainly don't see the need for one unless you are building some sort of sensor trigger.
The app on the phone is fabulous and you can control all of the settings also.

Yes, but...
- smart phone batteries die... especially when you are away from the road for more than a few hours,
- many gloves, especially warm ones, prevent the usage of touch screens,
- pushing on the button of a remote is faster than unlocking a phone, launching an app,...

Cheers,
Bernard

I stopped using the app early on because it was so quirky.  Maybe updates to the app, camera, or both have improved the experience since then.

The self-timer accomplishes what I need from the app or a remote, but the remote is still a welcome addition IMHO.

I'm excited about the charging station personally and think it's a great addition to the X1D accessory stable.

A self timer canít replace the release cord. The release cord is a necessity and must be used to instantaneously capture images at the exact right time. If the release cord would have also included a firmware release of seismic vibration wave recognition enabling the photographer to capture the sharpest images possible that combination might have trumped the $2 cable release!

Yes, but...
You will go through two camera batteries a day. If your phone needs charging after a few hours then you need a new phone. Mine lasts several days on a charge.
If you can't use the touch screen on the phone then you probably can't use this camera. It has a touch screen too.
If you have to go the the camera first then the phone is going to be much quicker. You can use the phone from many metres away. I don't see any difference if you turn off the timeouts for the phone.

I think that this is the way things will be going forward.

Yes, the need to use the touch screen a lot on my H6D-100c is indeed a major pain in cold weather.

Great news, I love the idea of a double-charger, while the shutter release cable is of no interest whatsoever for me. I use an L-Bracket on both my X1D bodies (I do landscape only) and:

1. The design of the little door means that you need to change the setting of the vertical part of the bracket through an Allen key when you want to use the cable release, which when in the field I find even less convenient than having to pair a phone, especially under adverse weather conditions;
2. Using the cord under rainy weather is a no-go (the little door has to stay open = no weather sealing), while the app or delayed release both work just fine in any weather;
3. Even when I can't use the delayed release (i.e., catching waves at the exact time), the lack of vibration of the X1D's leaf shutter + a sturdy tripod / head combination (RRS TVC 33 + Arca-Swiss P0) resulted in zero frames lost to vibration in 6 months of intense use.

Just my .02 of course :) Best regards,

Vieri
