Question on Don't Import Suspected Duplicates
« on: March 04, 2019, 06:46:57 pm »

I'm running LR Classic, v8.2.  For years, when I would synchronize a folder, the option "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" was already checked, as I would prefer.  I must have unchecked the box recently, and when importing or synchronizing, I have to check that manually.  I looked through LR Preferences and could find no way to go back and make that checked as a default.  I also cannot find anywhere else to accomplish that.  I presume it still can be done, so I would appreciate some guidance on that.

Should be sticky so next time you import and have it set, you're set.

Well, I went back and tried synchronizing a couple of different folders, and checking the Don't Import, etc. option, but each time I tried, and on each folder, that checkbox came up blank in the import dialogue.  Everything else I looked at in LR seems to be working OK...do I need to delete and reconfigure my Prefs file?

Every time I open the Import Dialog in LR 8.2 it looks like the attached and does what it says it should do. I don't recall doing anything special to achieve this - seems to be the default behaviour. Perhaps try a re-install if you aren't getting this after setting it up this way?

I reset my prefs using the alt shift keys, added some duplicates of files in my target folder and synced the folder. When the import dialogue came up, I checked the Don't Import Dupes box, then imported one of the files.  I closed LR, added some more dupes, opened LR and synchronized the folder.  When the import dialogue came up, like magic, the Don't Import Dupes box was again unchecked, so deleting and resetting the prefs file didn't correct the problem.  I don't think it's a big enough problem to make it worth uninstalling and reinstalling LR, though.

I wonder whether you have inadvertently got an 'Import Preset' (bottom of the Import window) which has the 'Don't Import Suspected Duplicates' tick-box unchecked.

If this the case, then every time you tick the box the preset will un-tick it for you either when you go back to the Import window or restart Lightroom.

Might be worth taking a look to see if this is the case.

Sure was worth taking a look...that was the issue.  Now the check mark is always there.  Many thanks!

It would be nice, although cumbersome, for the Preferences dialogue to allow a page for each of the areas for which optional choices can be made, because if you don't use one or another it takes some tedious searching.
