Face detection and canon eos R
« on: March 02, 2019, 11:31:16 am »

Anyone have experience using face detection on the eos r? Could you speak to what happens when multiple people are in the frame? I've only had the opportunity to use face detection with one person. Can it be used when there are multiple people or is it meant for one person? How does it know on whom to focus? Are you better off to ditch face detection, stop down to shallower depth of field and use one focus point centered on the plane of faces?

Hi Cynthia.

When AF detect more faces there are little arrows left and right from the AF box around the closest face. With the arrow buttons you can select another face.

I use it with AF servo and continuous shooting. It works fine.

Hope this helps.

Cynthia, just visited your site. You have some outstanding work there. Really enjoyed the flower images and the many bw images. Especially liked the boy being escorted by an adult through the pillars with wonderful contrasty light. Sorry to go off topic!

I have not seen a post by any users of Lightroom in this or the several forum I visit post any positive comments about this feature. I tried it for a short while and quickly paused the feature. Not worthwhile in my opinion.
