I do love the first one too. 

The second one - is there a curvature at the water line (or may be my eyes are playing a trick on me)?  Perhaps lens profile correction required?  Also if there were any more details to be had out of the fog, it would create a better point of interest as the foreground leads in that direction.  The beach and perhaps some of the water together by themselves could make for a nice abstract as well.

The first one is nice - maybe with dark shadows pulled up a bit though so just a bit more "connected" with grays in foreground and with a fraction more detail. The second has two competing elements and the "abstract elements" of the foreground are much stronger. Maybe with top 1/10th cropped off or maybe all above waterline - so the great shapes are given prominence - wouldn't say this is going to make it work but something to think about.
