Small stripes almost like banding on new z3200 when using GO
« on: January 25, 2019, 12:57:22 pm »

Almost looks like a type of banding but everything checks out. Head realigned, cleaned the heads and nozzle check is perfect.
This is only with the GO on. When off the stripes go away.
Hard to see in the photos but you should be able to see it.
Suggestions?

Dan,
If you go to Paper>View Loaded Paper, scroll to bottom and see if paper advance is recommended.

If you have not done it, and are using a custom profile that you made, it should be done.

Go to Image Quality Maintenance> Paper Advance Calibration> Calibrate

That will print a small chart and scan it.  It should clear up the problem for you.

Failing that, it could be you haven't made the correct paper preset choice when making the custom profile for your paper.

If you have not made a custom profile, then I would recommend you do so being careful to match a paper preset that most matches the paper you are using.
When you make the profile, it's important to chose GE on.

Thanks Mark
Thought I tried everything but apparently not.
Will give this a shot.
Thanks again.

What Mark said, do those things, recalibrate and do the paper advance calibration again to make sure.

In all these years of Z use I don’t remember ever seeing banding from the gloss enh. channel. But you can’t see it’s clarity with a nozzle check. So I’d do one more cleaning on just that head and I would gently shake that ink cart first.

Thanks Mark

Not sure if this will help troubleshoot.
I had GO set to on for the whole page.
On the white border where the GO starts their is no banding. As soon as it starts to print the image the banding starts on the white border as well as over the entire image. When it finishes printing the image and is laying down the Go on the outfield white border the banding goes away.
This has to be telling us something.
Will do all the suggested calibrations.

Dan, not familiar with that issue. I had a gloss head fail at some point though, probably by lack of use as matte is my main print choice.
Reading your message I first thought that the gloss head did not have enough ink buffer and it was just a coincidence with the image  that not enough gloss ink was available. But that contradicted with the tail border getting GE correctly.
I wonder whether the Gray and GE head parts share a common electrical connection and the demand of the Gray head kicking in at the image drops the voltage for the GE head. Or something similar better phrased in engineering terms.
You could try a pure black square image with borders where no Gray ink is used in the print. If that works correctly you could try to reinsert the GE/Gray head after cleaning the connectors of both the head and the slot it sits in.

Met vriendelijke groet, Ernst

Got it finally.
Did the calibrate paper advance, got to the end and it says canceled on the screen. Did another print same old lines.
Did the color calibrate and another print still no good.
Tried all the different settings under paper quality, best, whole page, max detail, more passes with a print after every change. Still had the lines.
That onscreen cancelled warning on the paper calibration bothered me so I went back and recalibrated the paper advance and this time the print came out perfect.

I am trying to love this machine but it is really testing my patience.
3 hours of time, who knows how much ink and about 15' of paper. Oh well that 1 good 8x12 print I got paid me $6.72. Thank goodness we had some large canvases with this order.

Thanks to Mark, Dean and Ernst

The Z has a steep learning curve Dan.  It requires mastering it to be able to get the most out of it.
But once you understand all the ins and outs, it begins to become second nature.

Beyond that, making extended profiles will knock your socks off.

You mentioned before that you bought the printer because of the price and the embedded spectrophotometer as something to play with.
Keep going with it and eventually you should get where we are with it - loving it and appreciating it's abilities.

Granted, it can be a love/hate relationship with it at times, but the love you give is equal to the love you get, LOL.

Hang in there Dan -

Best,

Mark
