Nikon Z7 IBIS sound(s)
« on: January 23, 2019, 08:23:35 am »

I've been using Z7 for a few months, but only today noticed a sounds produced by IBIS
1. When IBIS is ON, there is a small machinery working inside the camera - a quiet noise of friction and wobbling.
2. When I disable and enable IBIS in the info panel there is a clunking sound as if something gets engaged/disengaged. This was tested with 24-70 S lens attached.

Functionally IBIS is working well, but I didn't notice these sounds previously, so am a bit alarmed.

Have you noticed similar sounds?

Hello Michael,

The sound you hear is the locking mechanism of the IBIS. It engage when your camera turn idle or when you turn it off. It is a normal behaviour. It is to avoid sensor mouvement.

Hulyss, thank you! I guess this is for the sound #2.

What about the sound #1 - it is on all the time and is not imperceptible.

I do not know about the Z7 but on the Z6 it is very gentle. Once some speed reached I deactivate it anyway. I do not think you should worry. Even your local dealer won’t answer you accuratelly.
