incorrect Head rank ID EPSON
« on: December 30, 2018, 03:53:30 pm »

Hi,

I recently installed a fresh epson 11880 head.

The installation went fine. However, when trying to finish the job with software :" epson adjustment program2 " for epson 11880 i am having issues.

is there someone with some Epson experience that knows what i am doing wrong?

When scanning the code, it gives code :" DE    A30064VD00SSRRTTUUTSTR0000000000URTSUUSRSQJ 8AL     C"

The manual tells me to enter the first 42 digits.

I have attached a image, that shows the issue.

Hi, this is what I get for the first 42 digits, the only other issue might be that the one or more 'S' are actually '5', bit hard to be certain as printing is not real clear in posted image:

DEA30064
VD00SS
RRTTUUTST
R00000000
00URTSUUS
R

Cheers.

Just a guess, but have you tried entering the 42 digits but without the DE at the beginning and adding the S9 at the end.

Yes, i know, the picture is a bit off, for that reason i also pasted the the result of scanning the QR code. At first i was in doubt to, till i scanned the code.

Good one, i can give that a try. But i also tried the code of my old printhead, to see if the programm was working or not. It aproved the code from my last printhead while starting at the start (DE). But i will give it a try.

I was also thinking to update the firmware of the 11880, no clue if it has to do anything with this issue, but just to try something.

The firmware developer who decided to require you to enter a 42 digit code should be shot.

Hahaha ;D, it looks a bit pointless. But, it actually has a function.

"Head Rank IDSets/Inputs the information unique to each print head as the Head Rank ID forthe best driving voltage setup after replacing the print head."

But indeed, it is very annoying since i can't continue and finish the job :-/.

Hi, just another thought, maybe the 'blank' character spaces need to be entered as blanks, see my example below which contains periods representing the space characters, may be worth a try.

Also I may not have been clear in my previous post about how the edit boxes were entered in your post, what I meant to indicate was the following issues: edit box 2 has 8 a/n characters instead of 6, edit boxes 3,4,5 have 8 a/n characters instead of 9, it may be worth adjusting and trying again.

For the space embedded characters here is the example:

DE..A30064
....VD00SS
RRTTUUTST.
R00000000.
00URTSUUS.
R

Best of luck,

Brian.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for thinking along with time.

Solid and valid point.

Unfortunately, i tried, the software doesn't allow me to adjust the imput. Like: adding spaces. If i do, it will 'cost' me a letter/number to input. For example, adding two spaces will 'cost' two inputs, which only leaves room for 40 inputs left. So if i do that, i can't type all the 42 digits.

I'm currently waiting for this day to be over, so i can collect my maintenance tanks. It has nothing to do with the issue, but they are 100% full. For that reason i can't upgrade the firmware. The printer currently has a "maintenance cartridge full error".

All of this may gives you the idea this is a shitty machine, but once running, they are beautiful and true work horses. And once installed the fresh printhead, you can't return it. Cost = 1700$ :(

We had this problem when we did a head exchange of an 11880 a year or two ago.  Iíll try to remember to ask my partner tomorrow (who is the one that services Epson printers ) what he ended up doing to get around it.

I chatted with my partner who has replace several 11880 heads over the years.  The problem with the rank ID number is two fold.  First, not all the numbers/letters are used, and you donít actually use 42 consecutive characters and the 42 correct characters are not a logical set of 42 in a row. In the service manual they provide a diagram of how to determine the actual 42 characters that should be entered. Iíve attached a photo of the diagram. This is indicated in the original post so I assume that part isnít the problem.

Secondly, because the printing is so small itís really hard to tell the difference between a 0 (zero), an O (letter), and the letter Q.  He says he takes a picture of it then zooms in and that helps, but even then 0ís and Oís look almost identical. It often takes him several tries to get it all entered right.

Hope this helps.

Edit;  in looking at the original post, I do think you are using some incorrect numbers. You have as your third line TTUUTSTR, but according to the diagram, that last R is one of the excluded characters. you donít use the last character in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th line.

Based on what Iím reading from Epson, the code would be

DEA30064
VD00SS
RRTTUUTST
000000000
URTSUUSRS
J

This assumes I am not mistaking 0ís and Oís, mixing up Dís with Oís etc because the resolution of the picture.
What is confusing is the statement ďA 45-digit alphanumeric code is written on the ID Label.  Use the first 42 digits for the head IDĒ.  Yet in Epson service manual that isnít the case.

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses.

No solution yet, but the post from Wayne Fox looks promising.

I'm on my way to the printer location to give it a try.

Thanks for all the effort, i will let you know if it worked.

Hi!

Although it was a good effort. It didn't work.
I have attached a image.

The issue, i can't input the characters the exact same way as the original head rank id sticker.

This is because the software only allows me to use 8 characters on one line. Although the service manuals shows 9, this impossible to input in the software.

DEA30064
VD00SS
RRTTUUTST
000000000
URTSUUSRS
J

What i did, image on the right, i have used your code method but made it fit in to the boxes:
DEA30064              8
VD00SSRR             8
TTUUTST0              8
00000000              8
URTSUUSR             8
SJ                         2
----------------------------
                            42 in total.

But still, it says "incorrect head rank id" :-\

The only possibilities then are that either the head is not the correct head for the service software program or the service software program is not correct for the head you have.

May be worth trying to source the service program from another vendor, may be worth checking if there are different models in the 11880 machines also.

Good luck.

your code looks correct unless some of the 0ís are letters and not numbers.  Software seems unlikely but I suppose itís possible.  Where did you buy the head?   They have anyone that can help?

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses.

The software seems to be working, i tried using the old head head rank id. That one went perfectly.

I got the head from https://www.sign-in-china.com.

Support from there is pretty much worthless. this is the resonse i received:

Asking the same questions as i asked here.

"This is Edwin, your service specialist.

Thanks for your order. the attachment you sent is the rank number for the printhead, pls check it.

If you have any question, please take no hesitation to contact me."

I reached out again, but never received any response.

Anyone any experience with this website? I ordered from them using paypal, because the head for epson 11880 is a rare find nowadays.
