The Church and the Mountains

This was shot in the village Nova Levante in the Dolomites near my usual hotel (hotel Adler Carezza) which is just up the road from the village. A very nice family hotel which I highly recommend if you come to the Dolomites and plan to spend some time and have very nice meals. I have used this hotel for my workshops for 8 years now twice per year.

Thanks Russ and you are right, the intent was a triangle between the mountains with clouds, the church and the lit trees on the hill side. It has been sitting since June 2017 without being published. I shoot so much that sometimes there are pictures sitting in my folders for a long time before I go back and develop them.

Nice photo Hans. My immediate thought was I would like to see more of the landscape to the left of the Church. It just seems like it's crowding the lower left corner.

Perhaps a car park to the left  .  There is usually a reason for less conventional compositional decisions.

Thanks Stephen. In fact there is more space to the left and I cropped it from the original as it was a little tilted. I don't remember my thoughts on composition, but I think my thoughts were to place the church in the lower corner in order to have the grass in front and the wooden fence running from the church into the other corner and then have the illuminated hillside with the trees balance the visual weight of the church and the mountains above. With that reasoning the church is placed where it is. I made another version in portrait mode and with more play in triangles.
