Japan - Autumn scenery on the Tadami Line
« on: December 28, 2018, 02:29:21 pm »

Autumn scenery along the Tadami Line, a mountain railway connecting Japan's east and west coasts near Fukushima. Part of it was destroyed by landslides and flooding in 2011, but the line still runs, with the closed section due to reopen in a few years.

Well worth shooting in both autumn and winter (can't comment about spring/summer, since I've never been at those times of the year). A few prime shooting locations are inaccessible in the depths of winter, though, so you may be better off trying to shoot snowy landscapes in December rather than January/February, when you aren't dealing with metres of snow blocking roads and trails.

First photo: First bridge over the Tadami River. A7r3 and 100-400 at 135mm, f/8, 1/200s, ISO 100.

Second photo: Second bridge over the Tadami River, taken from a road tunnel overlooking the river from the opposite bank. A7r3 and 24-70/2.8 GM at 70mm, f/8, 1/400s, ISO 200. Five stacked shots to freeze the movement of the train while maintaining noise levels and DR over the rest of an image, giving an effective exposure of 1/80 and ISO 40 over the entire image, apart from where the train and its reflection are.

Third photo: Fourth bridge over the Tadami River. A7r3 and 24-70/2.8 GM at 51mm, f/8, 1/200s, ISO 100.

Nice work. I like the first one best - the reflection and the mist make it. 8)
