Portland Head Light requires a Property Release??
« on: December 22, 2018, 10:27:11 am »

The coast of Maine has been drawn, painted, and photographed millions of times. I submitted a photo I captured (attached) and getty tells me I need a property release. Well I contacted the State of Maine, they said they didn't think I needed one to sell my photograph, but recommended I reach out to Cape Elizabeth Maine who runs the place, I did and they didn't either.
My question is does anyone know why 500px and Getty require a property release for this image? I shot a different angle and that image was fine..
Thanks in advance

Just a knee-jerk reaction on their part, to cover their a$$, just in case.

since PHL is found just about everywhere from street vendors, crafts fairs to folks on the grounds.. I would say that state would be writing a LOT of releases..

I didn't think public property required a release?? there is no fee to get on the grounds there....
