Lightroom 8.1
« on: December 11, 2018, 03:43:09 am »

Lightroom 8.1 is out.

Some people may like to reorder the panels in Develop's right hand side. But for me the best new detail is that photos can now snap to a grid in Book which brings together the other recent changes allowing much more flexibility over layout.

Did not fix bug when going from LR to PS most commands will not be available unless PS was already running or you checked "Do not use Home screen" in preferences.

In other word if you go to PS from LR and PS is not already running and you have not checked the preferences above, you can do nothing. PS is dead to you. Windows bug.

If you disable the Home screen (preferences - general) it will work properly if you send a file from LR to PS if it is not opened. You have restart PS to get rid of it.

That's a Photoshop bug so no.

I don't see a "disable Home screen" option in preferences-general. I am running Windows 8.1. Is that a Windows 10 specific selection?

it's got a slightly different wording but it's on the General screen.  Something like 3rd down on the left.

There is a new bug, at least for me. Start LR, it crashes on opening with a send crash report. Start LR immediately after that, it opens normally. Has happened quite a few times.

First off, the bug doesn't affect Mac users.  ;D

There is another bug. If you apply the Auto preset using the Apply During Import command the results are all over the place compared to using it in the Develop module. You can use that preset when in the Develop module or the Auto command in the Basic window and both yield the same results. Adobe has been notified.

It's not a bug - it's the result of trying to balance ease of use with speed. When Auto is applied to multiple images (as in Import, Grid, AutoSync), LR doesn't calculate each image's Auto settings - it uses the most-selected and applies that to the rest. So let's say you applied Auto to a batcch of images. When you then take any individual image into Develop you see that the Auto button is enabled, indicating that that image's settings are not Auto.

If I created a second RAW file from an original, renamed it, imported it using Auto and then imported the original not using Auto and applied it later shouldn't both be the same?

Yes, they should be if you are importing a single file.

They aren't. First image is from applying Auto at import.

If you use the Preset in the Develop module it matches the results using Auto in the Basic window.
