Yes, the bright white background makes the images look unnatural to me. If not stuffed, taken in the studio.

for me to take an image in the wild and make it look like it was shot in the studio is an art form.

Wow. Beautiful wing spread pose in the first image. Nice photograph. It would have been more beautiful if the background was in some shades of green or brown.

Out of curiosity, as a non-bird-photographer, why do you use quite such a high shutter speed? 1/1000 I could understand, but does 1/2000 give you significantly better freezing of motion?

Yes, freezing motion is correct.. however, sometimes i am ISO limited and surprise myself with the head spin shot above... i do have more of those head spins from different birds in the rain from high ISO days. essentially ringing off the water.

With the new Nikon 600/4FL i have been handholding the lens almost always so high shutter speeds are essential... but now i am able to get much better flight shots.. i will post examples of this in a subsequent thread.
