One less reason to keep using Lightroom :-(

At least using GPS data still working in Capture One.

Since when did C1 have maps?

If you have LR up-to-date, Map will still work. Also, Adobe haven't done anything here. It's Google who changed the API and Adobe aren't going back to update earlier versions of LR.

Even if you don't want to subscribe, you can still use the GPS data in LR. Alt/Opt click the arrow to the right of the GPS data - that opens Google Maps. Alt/Opt Shift should open another map application - last time I looked it was Yahoo but it might be OpenStreetMap.

Certainly there in version 10. Just click on the option 'open in browser' and you're straight into Google maps.

Then it's no different to what you have now in LR.

And you can do the same in Library if you have GPS data: copy and paste into a browser or any other map product or use the contextual menu:

While I do not use this feature, I could use it as much as I wanted since I do have the current version of LR. The upgrade from versions 7 to 8 is free, so your issue is really easy to alleviate.

No. it costs you a subscription every month for ever.
I'm not paying that.

Thanks for reminding me of that. Hugely improved since the last time I looked at it.

He's also added some other interesting plug-ins I haven't seen too.

I use Personalized Auto Tone and Bulk Develop. BD allowed me to make a huge change to my workflow.

It seems there are instructions as to how to correct this available on line now.

If you can't find it via Google, you're unlikely to manage the process.

With the recent drop of Google Maps support in older versions of Lightroom, Adobe urged an upgrade to Classic CC to re-enable the maps module. However, I'm on an older Mac Pro for which Apple has prevented upgrade past El Capitan. This means I am therefore limited to Lightroom Classic CC 7.5.

LR7.5 is a 5 month old release of Lightroom (only two minor versions ago), and it is part of an active, paid monthly subscription. The LR installer is built to notice if you're on an older OS and automatically installs this version for you. Yet Adobe considers this version "not supported." and the maps module does not work (prompts an upgrade to 8.0, which I cannot do).

I would love a (non-BS) explanation as to what makes 7.5 different from 8.0 on this subject? My understanding is that the API key that Adobe is using for Maps got updated. LR7.5 is not "old" software. Why can there not be a 7.5.1 patch to fix this issue alone? Adobe is actively selling this version of the product and taking money from people with a major component of the software disabled. That is astonishingly bad business ethics unless there's a really good reason they "cannot" keep supporting the last version of their current software.

They could do it, they just won't.

A bit like saying there will always be a perpetual licence version of Lightroom, then moving to a subscription model, or swapping around upgrade policies on the CS products.

Here is the link Rhossyd refused to provide: https://github.com/astuder/lightroom-map-fix

I have not tried it and probably won’t. The warnings are VERY clear - do not do this unless you know what you are doing - just as Rhossyd warned.

I will be downloading and using Jeffrey Friedl’s plug-in suggested by Zen8. I use a number of plug-ins already and am more that satisfied with his work.

It's a good plug-in, with some useful extra features, but is nowhere near as convenient or fast to use as the original map module for some tasks like drag and dropping images to a location.

The Lightroom team got so much of this module perfect at the first attempt.

Thanks lol. I'm not having any issues but I keep links because people on other sites ask the same thing. I never bothered looking for it.
