Tablet recommendations for showing photos?

Carrying around my expensive MacBook for showing photos is not smart.

I’ve decided to buy a tablet purely for this purpose.

It’s needs to be cheap and have a decent screen. It needs nothing else.

Recommendations?

Also, what size screen would people use for this? Would you consider iPad mini acceptable?

To me, an iPad mini or regular iPad are both too small. Nothing beats a print book, but I have an 11x14 print book and iPad pro. If the iPad pro was 2-3" bigger it would be fantastic, but as-is, it's just good, not great.

The ipads are decent for photo.  Colors represented are good enough for most.  I would grab a basic one of current generation or even a previous version online.  They can be found relatively affordably.  There are also several decent apps for controlling viewing experience with photos.  I wouldn't go smaller than a standard ipad.  Ipad mini is like showing a 4x6 or 5x7.  The normal ipad is closer to an 8x10 if you want to think of it that way.  Nice handheld size. 

If this is for presentations to potential clients, I would also consider having prints, or have a blurb book printed even, or similar.  Something that makes the photos real.  Some of my clients print catalogs and such, and ive carried those with me too.  It's different to hold a real photo.  I carry the ipad with me around always, but I use it for other stuff too.  However, I can pull up my photos to display to a potential client just the same.  That has come in handy.  I haven't made it my only form of showing when actually giving a presentation.  Maybe im just a sucker for showing of prints too though.

I travel with my portfolios on my iPad Mini with retina display. It will fit in my pocket if needed. If I need a larger image, I can whip out the dongle and use an HDMI display or projector.

My photos are processed in Photoshop then I down-size to 2400 px, import them into Photos and organize them there in multiple albums.

If size and weight were not an issue, I'd probably go with one of the larger iPad pros, however, the mini still does its job and beats having to take the time and expense of printing the work.

As always, YRMV and Blurb books are also a nice, though static, way to showcase one's work.

I don't know if it's in the price range you're looking at but I use Samsung tablets with the OLED screens.  An 8" to remotely trigger my camera but the 9.5" to view/show finished photos on my galleries

I'm using my iPad all the time and just upgraded to the new 12.9" iPad Pro from the previous 9.7" diagonal and that made a huge difference. Not a budget solution but I fully expect this to last a couple of years.

I went for an iPad Pro 12.9" so I could use it with Astropad Studio in lieu of a Wacom with Lightroom/Photoshop, and it is very effective in my desktop workflow.  For showing images, I export from Lightroom to SmugMug and use that to socialise galleries when away from base.  It also works well for modest editing whilst travelling with Lightroom CC and simple video work in LumaFusion... along with a WD MyPassport Wireless Pro (the Lacie DJI BOSS Drive had not come out before my last major trip, but looks optimal).  Don't discount an iPad as just an image socialisation tool... I also use mine as my large 'flippy screen' with my wft-e8 high speed wireless transmitter on my 1DX2 for both composing photographs as a large remote 'live view' and pulling focus in video.  I am sure you have a tablet by now, but realise it has way more use in your workflow beyond the socialisation of imagery with clients.

In the end I bought a 6th generation (March 2018) 9.7in refurbished iPad directly from Apple.

The reviews of this model are excellent and the price irresistible.

It comes with everything new (box, cables, etc.) except the iPad itself. But, it looks new.

I shoot Canon 5D MkIV (stills and video)and Hasselblad. I would be interested in hearing more about how people use their tablets on location and what additional gear is required for this.
